Hello, I need help from some kind person who has access to the above records. I have a relative, eighteen year old Martha, who was staying with her sister and brother in law in the 1891 census. The head of of the family was Christopher Wilson, born Highgate, Middx in 1859 and their address 27 Milkwood Road, Lambeth, South London. My problem is I cannot decipher Martha's surname. It could be Bowne or Rouse or anything in between, I have tried all sorts of different combinations but with no success. I need someone to check the original parish records for this period, i.e. 1872-1873 to see if there is a Martha ?? shown. My interest is her sister, Augusta Ada, who was born in Stratford-upon-Avon and was my great uncle Christopher's wife. Many thanks, Nick Nick

Hi Martha Rouse born 1872 in Beoley In the 1881 census she is with her parents in Alvechurch (next to Beoley) and her father is a gamekeeper. Nicholas, I would have thought it easier to look for a marriage for Christopher Wilson and Augusta. Or check 1881 census for Martha born c1872 in Beoley. However both those methods failed. Luckily, using the Hugh Wallis site, Beoley christening batch C041131 goes right to 1875. And the only Martha between 1870-1880 is Martha Rouse christened 1872 to Henry Rouse & Mary. In 1881, Henry is a gamekeeper in Alvechurch. All the children are shown as born at Northfield. However, I can't find christenings records for Augusta or some of the other children. You'd possibly need to look at 1871 to find Augusta. Peter in Sydney
