    3. Hi I have found reference to a James Amess at Worcester Assizes in 1853. His crime was robbery with violence and he was given 10 years transportation. Would this have likely been to Australia? How do I follow it up? Many thanks for any help. Chris (Doha)

    3. Chris, Marie is correct. It's getting close to the end of the convict transportation period. The trouble is that each Australian state has their own records. However, unlike the number of counties in UK, Australia only has six states. But you'll need to check them all. You should find links to many sites under the convict tag at www.coraweb.com.au I would also advise checking the online BDM links from the same site for his possible marriage or death. In fact it may be quicker just to look at each state for a death of James Amess after 1853. Peter in Sydney.
