Hi Gus The Pheobe Porter I am looking for married Edward Jenkins at St Annes church Richmond , Liverpool 11th Nov 1807 when Edward was 21. Edward was born in Carmarthen in1786.parents Pryse Jenkins and Sarah Williams They had 7 children between 1808 and 1827 all born in Liverpool 1st Daughter born 1808 was Alice, 1st son was John born 1812 Edward shows up in the 1841 census as a widow living with John and his family so our Pheobe died sometime between 1827 and 1841 John eventually had 11 children with daughters named Sarah and Martha. A living relative of mine in her 80's taught genealogy the old fashioned way (pre computer searches) back in the 1960,70's in Liverpool with no success at tracing our Pheobe Porter. All the above is fully documented with certificates and church records. The fact that John named one daughter after his fathers mother and just maybe he named another after his mothers mother (Martha Jones) in which case further investigation is needed. So it is a matter of elimination. Yes the Pheobe Porter of Eastham is in the IGI and if someone on the Worcester list knows for sure that she married someone else or possibly died then she is eliminated from the search. Thanks for your response Ray Jenkins (born in Liverpool) Surrey BC Canada. -------Original Message------- From: Gus Tysoe Date: 04/30/11 04:36:28 To: Ray Jenkins; ENG-WORCESTER@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [WOR] Pheobe Porter Hello Ray, It would probably help us to help you were you to include any details you already have concerning Phoebe in her later life, for these might well provide some clues as to why you've picked on this particular Phoebe PORTER's baptism as being the 'real' one. Such things as: Did they emigrate? When did Phoebe die? Have you found either of the couple in any of the UK Censuses from 1841 onwards? Unfortunately from what we have she (and even the reported marriage) looks to be no more than an "IGI Best Fit"...The Liverpool marriage was the only hit I got for an Edward JENKINS marrying a Phoebe in England between 1805 and 1815... And there are a small number of Phoebe PORTER Baptisms that might fit a little better than the one in Eastham. Eastham was - and still is - an extremely rural parish, and lies in a narrow 'peninsula' of Worcestershire within about a couple of miles of the borders with both Herefordshire and Shropshire. There had been a definite PORTER 'presence' in Eastham from [at least] 1700 to 1870. Its 'local industrial town' is Kidderminster, some 12 miles to the East - where many PORTER baptisms and marriages took place. Liverpool is some 80 miles by crow-flight. Phoebe was the 5th child [of 7] of John & Martha - and I feel is probably much more likely to have been the Phoebe who married a Thomas BRAGINTON (or BREGINTON, depending on the index used) at Kidderminster on 11 May 1818. And she, in all likelihood, is the Phoebe BRAGGINGTON buried at Kidderminster on 3 Sep 1843, with her age quoted as '48'. [Maybet Phoebe'd shaved a few years off when she married!] It is, of course, not impossible that an 18-year-old country girl might have made the long journey from Estham to Liverpool - but it seems unlikely.
