Hello Yesterday I forwarded a message to this address - to be forwarded to the group. However, I just realised that I sent it from an email address that is not registered with you, ie suemay1@grapevine.com.au This is my new address but the previous one (suemay1@actewagl.net.au) is still operational. Sorry to cause confusion - and I hope you are able to distribute my message. I wasn't sure of the process for achieving this - apologies. Many thanks for any assistance you can provide. In May/June, I'll be living in Worcester and hope to gather some information about the family and, if at all possible, to meet any relatives still in the area. My grandfather was William Farley Lane, born on 21 August 1886 'By Mill Pond, Birtsmorton'. Birth registered 17 September 1886, Upton-on-Severn (6293G). The details of his immediate family are as follows: - Father - George Henry Lane (b. 1859) - Mother - Louisa (nee Wagstaff) (b. 1857) - Siblings - Annie L. (b. 1890); Alick J. (b. 1893); and Bertha C. (b. 1896) There were several Lane families in the area at the time, and the same first names were used across these families, making it difficult to be definite about relationships. For example, there was a William T. Lane (b. 1887) whose parents were George and Louisa Lane but whose siblings had names different from the above. It appears that the parents of my great-grandfather (George Henry Lane) were James Lane (b. 1809 in Eastnor) and Hannah (b. 1828 in Castlemorton) and George's siblings were Eliza Annie (b.?) and Albert (b. 1869). Eliza Annie married James Williams and their children were Emily Williams (b. 1887); James A Williams (b. 1892); and Lillian E Williams (b. 1898). Albert married Charlotte Sarah (b. 1871 in Holland) and their daughter, Flora Lane, was born in 1891. Unfortunately, I never knew my grandfather (William Farley) because he died in 1929 in Kandos, New South Wales, when my mother was only 6 - and my mother had no knowledge of William's family back in England. Touchingly, my mother (b. 1923 - d. 2008) was christened Margaret Louisa Lane, 'Louisa' being her grandmother's name. If anyone is interested, I can provide some details of my grandfather's life and family in Australia in a separate email. If anyone has a family tree that overlaps mine above, I would appreciate hearing about it - and, of course, if it's possible for me to make contact with any relatives, that would be a real bonus. Many thanks for any assistance you can offer - and I look forward to meeting some of you at one of the Worcester meetings. Regards Sue May Canberra Australia
