    3. Margaret, The names look strangely familiar. Have you posted them on other lists? If not, try Googling the names in quotation marks or searching the archives of surname lists. I don't put a lot of hope in finding current day descendants of specific families. I believe that really narrows down your chance of success. Far better to post the facts you know and ask list members for suggestions. Then everybody can potentially help. I'd list their estimated birth dates, date and location of births of children, and immigration details. If the had a couple of children, my guess is they may appear in 1861 census. Have you looked there? Alternatively have you looked for immigration records in Tasmania. I haven't looked specifically for Tasmania, but I know the relative State Archives of NSW, VIC and QLD have comprehensive listings of immigrants, especially Assisted Immigrants. You might also look at certificates for subsequent BDM events of those children born in UK. There marriage or death certificate should show origins. But if they arrived after 1861, I'd start by checking 1861 census. You can get it free at some FAHS centres or do it from home using a pay per view option at Find My Past. Peter in Sydney

If not, you can find the marriage with FreeBMD. It was, as you say, in 1855 in the June quarter at Kings Norton, vol 6c page 518 and you can order a copy from the GRO website. If you don't have the certificate and you don't know how to get one, come back and ask me again! This should give you the names of both fathers (but not the mothers). What you do then is try and find them in the censuses of 1841 and 1851 at either Ancestry or Findmypast. This should give you more details of their families. -- Roy Stockdill Genealogical researcher, writer & lecturer Newbies' Guide to Genealogy & Family History: www.genuki.org.uk/gs/Newbie.html "There is only one thing in the world worse than being talked about, and that is not being talked about." 3. Carinya, Sparkbrook looks like it might be in Warwickshire according to IGI batches site. Perhaps you've been looking in the wrong place or it's right on the border of two counties. I think you need to look at earlier census records, 1841, 1851, 1861 and 1871. Like me, you'll have to pay for these unless you can find a local FHS centre of Library that has Find My Past or Ancestry for free. However, Find My Past has a pay per view option where you could look them all up for about six UK pounds (A$12). You should try and find marriage and births of children on FreeBMD. David's birth should be there as well as it looks like it was after 1837. It looks like there was also another son William c1859. But I would need to pay to see the full data. Peter in Sydney

Further details can be found on the IPS website at www.ips.gov.uk. Please note in addition that GRO have reviewed the range of services which we currently offer. We have been advised that there is no clear remit in statute for charging for a service to check additional index references, or to retain partial fees. In order to ensure full legal compliance, and in view of the fact that we cannot afford to offer this service free of charge, we are regretfully withdrawing our reference checking service from 6 April. This will include the withdrawal of the "checking points". So pay more and get a reduced service.... Polly
