    3. Evening, My thanks to Chris,Peter and Gus for their replies. I apologise for the lack of detail in my original message.... I didn't consider it important. However,I will remember in future. For the record...Henry was born Ilminster ,Somerset 1791,son of Charles Barber and Catherine (Cleal). I have traced him until his death in Chard, Somerset june Qrt 1869 aged 77. The only mention of his wife Ann,that I have found is the 1841......that is why I need the marriage, please! Charles Adams,my ggg/father is descended from George Adams and Judyth Hawkins, m 4th Oct 1580 at Honnington Again, thank you for taking the trouble to reply Roy Cwmbran

    3. Hello Roy, Unless I'm looking at the wrong Henry BARBER the 1841 & 1851 don't give the information you quote:-( 1841 Census HO107/1203-12/8; p. 8 Husband Mans End, Shipston on Stour, WOR Henry BARBER, 50, M, J-Hatter, N Ann BARBER, 40, F, [nil], Y And - er - that's it...... All that can be deduced from this is that Henry was between 50 and 54, born "out of Worcestershire", and a [probably Journeyman] Hatter; while Ann was between 5 and 10 years his junior, born "in Worcestershire". Ancestry had him initially indexed as BARBEE, but "Ian541" amended this to BARBER, and added his birthplace of Ilminster, SOM on 7 Mar this year. In 1851 what would look to be the same man is shown: 1851 Census HO107/2076/527/49 Back Road, Shipston on Stour, WOR Henry BARBER, Head, M, 60, M, Hatter, SOM, Ilminster Elizabeth BARBER, Dau, M, 32, F, Dressmaker, WOR, Shipston Richard ADAMS, GSon, -, 9, M, Scholar, WOR, Shipston William ADAMS, GSon, -, 3, M, Scholar, WOR, Shipston Granted that there was a Charles ADAMS in the 1841: 1841 Census HO107/1203-12/14; p. 21 Husband Mans End, Shipston on Stour, WOR Charles ADAMS, 25, M, Mason, N Elizabeth [BLANK], 20, F, [nil], Y Elizabeth's 'surname' is anomalous - in all other households where surnames are the same these are indicated by "-do-" - so it just may have been a little camouflage that she'd spent Census night "under his roof"... There again, the marriage of an Elizabeth BARBER was recorded in Shipston District in 1839 DecQ, 11 533, and the [apparently incomplete] list of grooms under that reference includes a Charles ADAMS, so the anomaly may just be down to a slip by the enumerator. OTOH, his entry agrees with your later report of his birthplace as 'Honnington', for Honington - in WAR - was on the immediately-opposite bank of the Stour from Shipston. And it looks as if Henry had messed-up his Householder's Return in 1851... None of which, of course, answers your basic question! However, there is a more-than-reasonable possibility - based on Ann's reportedly having been born 'in County', and Elizabeth's stated birthplace - that the marriage would've taken place in Worcestershire. In that case, it should be in the WOR Marriages Index, and if it helps I will look there when next at Worcester History Centre [probably on Tuesday or Wednesday]. 3. Hello, I am new to this list and I am hoping someone will be able to help me or, at least, point me in the right direction. I am looking for the marriage of Henry Barber b 1791 at Ilminster,Somerset. In the 1841 census Henry was at Shipston on Stour with wife Ann and daughter Elizabeth. Elizabeth was 20yrs of age and b Shipston. Also there was Charles Adams, son in law, also b Shipston (although in the 1871 census he was b at Honnington). I have no idea of Henry's wife, Ann's maiden name. Henry was a hatter....he was at Shipston in the 1851 Census but back at Ilminster during the 1861 census. Thank you, in anticipation Roy Cwmbran

    3. Hi Peter Thanks for your help, I think you are right on reflection the Thomas in Bristol is probably not Thomas Snrs son. Worcester record office has a huge collection of deeds in no particular logical order due to the age of the collection. I think I am going to have to spend some more time going through it and hope to get lucky. I know it is like searching for a needle in a haystack with very few clues, a couple of listers have come up with a few ideas, the Astley connection looks interesting. 3. Hi Listers, I too have SPILSBURYS and BURYS. You mentioned an Elizabeth Spilsbury - mine married John Bury on April 4, 1768 at Rock, Worcs. They had two children, Joseph and John. We don't know when John died but Elizabeth remarried, a William Hammond, on August 24, 1772 at Astley, Worcs. They had five children all baptized at Powick, Worcs. We don't know where John and Joseph were baptized but they are mentioned in their grandfather's will. The two Thomas' that I have in the family were both baptized at Rock, 1777 and 1793. Due to this being a collateral line I haven't done too much work on it. Any connections here? Pauline from sunny Florida

I haven't done a lot of work on my SPILSBURY ancestors, who include my 10GGP, Thomas and Mary SPILSBURY, who had issue between 1610 and 1622, Rock; my 9GGP, Thomas and Joan SPILSBURY, who died 1690 and 1700, respectively, bur Rock; my 8GGM, Mary SPILSBURY, bp 1641, Rock, m 1674 Great Witley to Francis YARNOLD. I mention them in case you notice some sort of link. I do hope I haven't complicated matters!! 3. Peter The will is Online Document PROB 11/1868 Will of Joseph Bury Farmer Bellbroughton , Worcestershire . Will of Joseph Bury Farmer Bellbroughton , Worcestershire Date: 1836 I don't know Thomas snr's mother because I don't know who Thomas was, except he was a butcher, his age on the 1841 is 60 so he may or may not be the one someone has put in the igi b 1765, (The marriage to Frances Teft is probably correct) his son was 25-30 on the 1841, if i recall correctly so may well be the one born at Belbroughton to Thomas and Frances Teft. In the 1851 the son is 39 b Belbroughton living with a housekeeper called Elizabeth Crane he probably had no brothers and sisters if the IGI is correct. 1851 for the father shows two options Thomas Spilsbury  abt 1781 Feckenham, Worcestershire, England Pauper Bromsgrove, Worcestershire  or The more likely (a proprietor of houses) Name: Thomas Spilsbury Age: 64 Estimated birth year: abt 1787 Relation: Head Spouse's name: Mary Gender: Male Where born: Bewdley, Worcestershire, England Civil parish: Bristol St Philip and St Jacob Ecclesiastical parish: St Luke County/Island: Gloucestershire Country: England Registration district: Clifton Sub-registration district: St Philip and Jacob ED, institution, or vessel: 1q Household schedule number: 129 Household Members: Name Age Thomas Spilsbury 64 Mary Spilsbury 49 Thomas Spilsbury 22 John Spilsbury 20 Louisa Spilsbury 19 Mary Spilsbury 18 Martha Coggin 14 My guess is that Thomas Snr is one of the one's who was born in the 1780's the issue is which one. If he was christened at Bewdley at the presbyterian then the Mary also christened there on the igi could be his sister. However another Spilsbury marries a Berry earlier, I will leave that for now. Mark PS do you have any Spilsburys or Bury's/Berry's in your family ?

    3. Hi Listers The reason I have given you no other information on this is because I don't really have much, only thoughts with no proof. This is what i know. Both Thomas' (Butchers) are listed in a will (one as executor) written by the brother (Joseph Bury, whose birth I can't find somewhere in the late 1700's, a farmer and land owner between Belbroughton and Chaddesley Corbett) of my fourth great grandfather (John Bury a butcher from Chaddesley Corbett and later Kinver). I have proved the relationship between John and Joseph through legal documents at Worcester Record Office. My suspicion is that Josephs brother John may be the John who married Mary Spilsbury at Stoke Prior in 1795 on the IGI and Thomas spilsbury Snr could be a brother of Mary. To have been an executor of a considerable estate would have implied great trust and maybe a family connection. The IGI throws quite a few options up for Thomas and Mary Spilsburys, but with no further information I was hoping someone may recognise the family. It is all rather complex and if correct would mean that John Bury would have been married twice as he married Elizabeth Watkins at Wolverley in 1802. I hope this throws light on my thinking but I know does not really help much. Regards Mark

There is also a marriage of John Moggridge and Mary Southan at St. Swithins on 15th September 1771. If some kind person has a bit of time available at the FHC, I wonder if they could do a look-up for me. I would be particularly interested in knowing where the pair of them were resident at the time of their marriage. Thanks so much if anyone can help Regards Dennis
