Hello Alan, Probably your best bet here is to buy the marriage certificate as it should supply sufficient information to answer at least some of your questions and give clues for seeking Alfred in the 1901 & 1911 Censuses. As far as HEWITT children with mother's maiden name SULLIVAN there were only 10 registered 1915-2005 - in 1918 [West Bromwich], 1920 [Bromsgrove], 1928, 1931-35 incl; 1937; & 1941. Which I find somewhat surprising, as there were 6 HEWITT Grooms marrying SULLIVAN Brides in the same period - in 1917, 1927, 1928, 1939, 1945; & 1969... The West Brom one *MAY* be yours - but if it was me I'd buy this - John D HEWITT, 1920 Sep Q, Bromsgrove 6c 415 - as *it* should also give further useful clues. The later children look more likely to relate to the later marriages. Good evening to you all Is there anyone interested in the GUY family ...viz William Guy married Constance Inett (Inight) 30 Aug.1809 - Worcester, All Saints Thomas Guy baptised 22.Jan.1812 - Worcester, All Saints William Guy baptised Mar.1814 - Worcester, St.Helen Emma Guy baptised 18 Feb.1816 - Worcester, St.Helen Amelia Guy baptised 02 May 1818 - Worcester, St.Clement Mary Ann Robinson Guy baptised 05 Sep 1820, Worcester, St.Clement Jemima Guy baptised 15 Dec. 1822, Worcester, All Saints who can advise or suggest what might have happened to them after 1822. I can find no further mention of them in any Worcestershire parish records, nothing which matches the birth dates in the 3rd. edition of the National Burial Index and nothing in the National BMD records subsequent to 1837. It does imply that, perhaps, the family emigrated but, again, I have drawn a blank. Any suggestions ? Hopefully, Edward
Hi Guy, Have you tried the parish chest records? I can't tell whether you've searched through the actual parish registers so I don't know if you're getting these baptisms off indexes and not following up in the PRs although you may have gone through them. If you haven't then I suggest trying all the different places where the children were baptized. Some of them may have died as infants before civil registration. If the father died then Thomas may have been apprenticed out and there might be an apprenticeship record for him. If the family was poor there might be mention of them in the churchwardens accounts or the overseers of the poor accounts. The parish chest records contain these types of records but sometimes they contain a lot and sometimes very little. At least it's worth a try. Hello from New Zealand Are you able to help us here please...?? Thomas Elijah GUEST Ch 3 May 1893 Oldbury, Worcester, England Thomas Elijah GUEST married Barbara Jane VAUGHAN on 5 September 1892 at Preston Barracks, Brighton Sussex Thomas Elijah GUEST was a Private in the 6th Dragoons, stationed at Preston Barracks. Thomas GUEST - Ch 3 May 1893 Oldbury, Worcester, England s/o Thomas and Jane GUEST Is this the same couple that were married September 1892 at Preston Barracks, Brighton Sussex ....?? Did they have any more children please...?? Any assistance welcomed... Kind regards from New Zealand ....... Maree S. Gordon, Matamata, Waikato, NZ <tappets@clear.net.nz>
Maree: The 1901 census has 4 couples named Thomas and Jane GUEST, and the 1891 census has 7. Of the 4 in 1901, two are in the West Midlands. One is in Cakemore (a short distance over the parish boundary from Oldbury) and one in Wollaston (ie Stourbridge). However, both these couples also appear in the 1891 census, so were probably (but not necessarily) married before then Neither has a son called Thomas in 1901, and in fact I can't find a Thomas GUEST son of Thomas and Jane GUEST in 1901. Sorry not to be more encouraging. Best wishes Paul On 9 July 2010 21:41, Maree <tappets@clear.net.nz> wrote: > Hello from New Zealand > > Are you able to help us here please...?? > > Thomas Elijah GUEST > Ch 3 May 1893 Oldbury, Worcester, England > > > Thomas Elijah GUEST married Barbara Jane VAUGHAN > on 5 September 1892 at Preston Barracks, Brighton Sussex > > Thomas Elijah GUEST was a Private in the 6th Dragoons, stationed at Preston > Barracks. > > Thomas GUEST - Ch 3 May 1893 Oldbury, Worcester, England > s/o Thomas and Jane GUEST > > Is this the same couple that were married September 1892 at Preston > Barracks, Brighton Sussex ....?? > > Did they have any more children please...?? > > Any assistance welcomed... > > Kind regards from New Zealand ....... > > Maree S. Hi list, several Worcestershire connections appear on the Yesterdays site, link below, that has been updated with thousand more names of persons who appear on official documents. If link fails Gogle Yesterdays Journey. mike . -- http://homepages.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~spire/Yesterday/index.htm
In reply to Judy, there is an entry for an Ada Hughes in Worcester, born 1876 in Cheltenham that may be the person you're looking for.- assuming that Hughes is her married name; she's the wife of Isaac, living at 3 Bowling Green Terrace, Worcester. I can send details off-list if this is of help. Rgds, Greg Cooper
Am I misunderstanding these conversations. I joined this list to read letters that mention names such as such as Hinton, Poole, Purser Caswell, Taylor, Weaver etc., and then I can chip in and hopefully discover new relies or trees. Is this not the case now? Can I go through the archives to read the letters that are not sent to everyone. Fat lot of use joining this list, if I cant get these letters. I wondered why the list was so quite compared with the Shropshire one. I cannot go down to the local library to discover Kidderminster information. Richard Poole, Auckland
To the two Mikes, Thanks.. I've been on dozens of lists over more than a decade and still subscribe to about ten. Worcester is the only one of those that works that way. I believe that the list deserves to see each answer. I certainly try to read them all and help wherever I can. And if you don't see the replies, we could all end up wasting our time answering the same question over and over again. I just so used to using the Reply button for everyone else. I only remember Worcester is different after I've hit the send button. Peter in Sydney
Peter I am presently on at least a dozen Lists also, and have so been on many longer than 10 years. Have never come across what you say, I have always had the choice of List or Individual or both at the same time. In fact some Lists advise that certain replies are sent to individuals rather than thro' the List. With all best wishes to you. Dennis FLAVELL. Sorry Peter but every List does not force replies to go thro' the List, rather than to the sender only. With best wishes. Is there any way that this list can be changed to conform with every other list, that force replies to go through the list, rather than to the sender only? Peter BOOTH - Family Historian, SYDNEY --------------------------------------- (Enquire about Growing your Family Tree)
Peter, Like you I am on many Lists. No-one who uses the full facility of the Rootsweb Lists would want replies sent only direct to enquiring individuals. If messages were not sent to the List itself they wouldn't appears in the Archives which is a valuable asset in itself - obviously not known to all! Anyone can look back in the Archives to see if their particular query has been answered before or to check if details of a surname have been documented earlier. If all questions were answered direct to particular lone Listers there would be no information in the archives and we would all would be worse off. Folk should look at http://archiver.rootsweb.ancestry.com/th/index/ENG-WORCESTER/ or, to see the complete archives at http://archiver.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/search Maggie. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Peter Booth" <pbo08596@bigpond.net.au> To: <ENG-WORCESTER-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Thursday, July 01, 2010 1:57 PM Subject: Re: [WOR] MESSAGE POSTS > > To the two Mikes, > > Thanks.. > > I've been on dozens of lists over more than a decade and still > subscribe > to about ten. I see that the default is to 'reply-to-sender'. With Thunderbird, hitting Reply would send to OP, but hitting Reply To List goes where it should do - the list. -- Regards, Mike Fry Johannesburg
