    3. Sent for the fourth time :o(Hi Listers Sorry to be hogging the cyberspace, if, indeed, I am, but I've come across a little mystery which I'm sure someone will be able to throw some light on. My 4GGF, George SALE, married Mary PETHWARD 27 Nov 1793 in Cleeve Prior. I can find no other mention whatever of the name PETHWARD, but a spot of surfing reveals that PETHARD is, if not common, then certainly not unusual in WOR. Is there, by chance, anyone with this name in their tree, please? Could there possibly be someone actually researching the name? Kind and hopeful regards Joy

    3. Hello the site and the list. I have recently the results of help given to a question on 'Rootschat'. The question was refering to Lower Mitton Parish/Non Conformist records. Some very kind person with the username 'Jim1212' provided a comprehensive reply. I wondered if he was on this site? or indeed if anyone had access to such records which I believe are held somewhere in Worcester itself! John Eaton Socon Cambridgeshire

    3. Hello. I live in Spain and I am helping a friend in Perth, Australia with his family history. I have followed the May family into Australia but to confirm them further back I need a copy or transcription of a marriage. Philip May married Agnes Thomas at St Mary's Church Kidderminster 30th June 1799. This might help me link them to a couple with the same names in Devon (or not). Can anyone help me with this please? 3. Hi, Many thanks to; Roy Stockdill, Wolfie, Gus Tysoe and Velda Hampton for your help in locating Bloody Hole in Bewdley. I now know where the place is in relation to Wyre Hill. The family I am researching is the family of John White. He was a wood cutter living with his family at Bloody Hole in the 1871 census. In 1881 they were living in Wyre Hill. Many thanks again for your help. Kind regards Lesley

    3. > > Can anyone tell me where in Bewdley Bloody Hole is please? > > Try entering "Bloody Hole+Bewdley" into Google and you will come up with several hits. A couple direct you to the ENG-WORCESTER archives for 2002 when this query cropped up previously. Another directs you to the 1881 census for Kidderminster registration district, where Bloody Hole is actually listed as an address and yet another entry directs you to the website of a pub called the Black Boy, Bewdley, which refers to the Battle of Worcester in the Civil Wars when Charles II was defeated by Cromwell's forces, the battle ending just outside Bewdley in a valley known to this day as Bloody Hole. One of the entries in the ENG-WORCESTER archives offers the following instructions..... To view the location of Bloody Hole, Bewdley. I would suggest that you go to the web site http://www.old-maps.co.uk Type in the word Bewdley on the left hand side and click search. Double click on Bewdley Worcestershire Click the Left Brown arrow head. Do this three times in all Click on the enlarge number 2 Click the Down Brown arrow head once Bloody Hole can then be seen just above Bowcastle Farm Don't know whether this still works, since it was written some years ago! -- Roy Stockdill Genealogical researcher, writer & lecturer Newbies' Guide to Genealogy & Family History: www.genuki.org.uk/gs/Newbie.html "There is only one thing in the world worse than being talked about, and that is not being talked about." 3. Hello Lesley, The Quick Answer is that if it was a Street Name it isn't now.... You'd basically need a highly-detailed - and Old - Map to find it named, and about the earliest of those only dates from the 1880s. [It isn't on Taylor's 1772 Map of Worcestershire...] Can you tell us where you got the name from? And the date of the record? [And if from a Census, then the full reference would also be a great help, too] Gus ----- Original Message ----- From: "Lesley Styles" <lesley63styles@hotmail.co.uk> To: <eng-worcester@rootsweb.com> Sent: Thursday, October 28, 2010 1:54 PM Subject: [WOR] Bloody Hole, Bewdley > > Hi, > > Can anyone tell me where in Bewdley Bloody Hole is please? > > I know Wyre Hill quite well so directions from there would be good. > > Thanks. > > Kind regards > Lesley > > ------------------------------- > To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to > ENG-WORCESTER-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the > quotes in the subject and the body of the message

    3. Stephen, Are you just looking for fellow researchers of this family or is there something specific? A quick look at his christening on IGI shows parents as John and Mary. By doing a parent search or simply clicking on the batch number, he looks to be the youngest of nine children born at Holt between 1768 - 1794, (although it could be two or more couples) Have a look at Bishop families in Holt in 1841 census or in 1851 for Bishop surname born in Holt. You might also check submitted trees at places like Rootsweb or Ancestry, and also surname message boards. Peter

    3. Hi Listers, I hope I'm not out of order here, if I am please forgive me. There seem to be a quite few people who have a John KITELEY and Susannah WIAT with a daughter Elizabeth married to a Samuel HOLLOWAY. This is incorrect, there were two Elizabeths in the parish of Upper Arley at the time of the marriage in 1723. Because the parish is now in Worcestershire I thought it might be useful to let all know that I have set up a Kiteley blog on the matter. All pertinent information is there including my transcripts of wills. If anyone has any links to this family please go to: "The Kiteley Blog" Type as exactly as shown including quotation marks. I would love to hear from anyone who is descended from Samuel and Elizabeth Kiteley. Pauline from sunny Florida

    3. Just checked a couple of censuses and he appears on the 1861 & '71 as a lodger with his sister and her husband John and Mary Perkins. Unmarried, he's an agricultural labourer and the residence is Burf Cottages, Astley, a few miles upstream on the Severn from Holt. There's a James Bishop death in 1877. Littlebury's Directory 1905 records another James Bishop in Sinton (Sinton Green),Grimley as a tailor.
