    1. [WOR] Christmas Greetings!
    2. Polly Rubery
    3. Well my last minute preparations are even more last minute than usual - I can offer many excuses but the main ones are illness. I have been suffering from a bout of bronchitis since last Friday night, and then my cat, of at least 17 years of age and who this year has been starting to look it became very weak over the weekend. I'm glad to report that I am on the mend, but very sad to say that Scampi died last night...:-( But last minute though they maybe they are sincerely meant and come with thanks to all who have helped me over the past year and best wishes for the future to you all in both your lives and researches. I would like to share my online Christmas card with you: www.rowberry.org/xmas10.html and the ROWBERRY ONS Newsletter 2010: www.rowberry.org/xmasRlet10.pdf Kindest regards Polly

    3. Just be careful as the indexing is very bad. People supposedly on page are not there and others with surnames very incorrect. 1. [WOR] Family search in depth
    2. Dennis Corbett .
    3. Family Search shows a marriage of Thomas Corbett and Mary Sanders in Inkberrow on 19th June 1780. This is a member's posting and there does not seem to be a transcript from the actual register. According to the message on the page it is possible to contact the person who posted this information if the Batch number and Sheet number are known - these are 7626616 and 81 respectively. Can anyone possibly tell me what I do with those numbers if I wish to follow up please? Thanks Dennis

    3. Not every library has extended their Gale/British Library subscription (though I would always attempt to encourage them to do so and therefore Family Historians to ask can they have access). I have access to a lot of British Library material through my Buckinghamshire Library Service from home - though how long they will be able to support it I'm not sure in the current recession. Incidentally I have put one copy of Berrow's online (I think this copy should be free but apologies if not) and will tackle the rest of the collection - plus some Worcester Guardian's I had to dis-bind to get scanned( I think my copies of the Guardian are missing from the BL collection) Best Regards Richard From: Roger Jones Sent: Monday, December 13, 2010 9:51 AM To: Gus Tysoe Cc: Richard Heaton ; ENG-WORCESTER@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [WOR] Fw: Gaol records I read Berrows online via my Birmingham Central library readers card. 3. Just to say that I have been in touch with the Staffordshire Record Office and they confirmed that they have this record, so will be ordering it along with baptisms of three male siblings, all born Dudley Worcester but baptized/christened at Wombourne Staffs. If all four of these fellows, particularly Joseph Aston Perkes (presumably given his mother's maiden name Aston) and Charles (who turns up in some notes of another family member) have the same father, then it looks as though am on the right track. So again, thank you so much for this good advice! I've only experience of Berrows from 1756 - 1790's (range of my collection which I am digitalising) and certainly towards the end of this period crime was well reported so by 1836 you should get some good reports. 3. Hello Angela, AFAIK if he was sentenced at the Assizes you'll be out of luck anywhere, other than to search the local papers for reports. [Berrow's Worcester Journal, or the Worcester Herald.] OTOH, if he was dealt with by the local Quarter Sessions, these have indexed - in manuscript only - available at either the Records Office at County Hall, or the History Centre in the middle of the town. [POSSIBLY both, but I have reservations!] Other problems arise over which Gaol he was in - for there were 2. The City Gaol (fairly near the cathedral, but now long gone) or the County Gaol a little to the North of today's Railway Bridge - and demolished in the 1930s. They held different classes of offender, the City being for minor offences within the boundary. A - very - few "Calendars" of prison inmates are also held at Worcester Records Office. 1. Re: [WOR] Thomas PERKES b 1824 Dudley Worc and Perkes in Old Swinford
    2. Paul Prescott
    3. Carolyn: You probably know that Thomas PERKES' baptism is on the IGI for 28 March 1824 at Wombourne. Wombourne was in Staffordshire, not Worcestershire (although Dudley was in Worcestershire, a detached island of that county entirely surrounded by Staffordshire). Thomas's parents are shown on the IGI as Henry PERKES and Elizabeth CARTWRT. It's highly unusual for parish registers in this part of the world to give mother's maiden names at this period, so either Henry and Elizabeth weren't married, or CARTWRT wasn't Elizabeth's surname but her middle name. You'd want to see a copy of the register to check. There are various ways to get a copy - the registers are available at Dudley Record Office, Staffordshire County Record Office, or Lichfield Joint Record Office. You can google any of these and then email or even telephone the Record office, and they'll provide one for a fee. Alternatively you can post your request on the Rootsweb Staffordshire list, and you'll probably find someone to look up trhe information for you. If you're lucky, you may even come across someone who has a microfiche copy of the registers who would send you a copy. Good luck Paul Prescott Scotland On 11 December 2010 22:55, Carolyn Perkes <cperkes@videotron.ca> wrote: > Dear listers, > > I am trying to determine how I can obtain a copy of the C of E parish > record for the birth/baptism of Thomas Perkes, born 4 Feb 1824, > Dudley, Worcester d. 3. Dear listers, I am trying to determine how I can obtain a copy of the C of E parish record for the birth/baptism of Thomas Perkes, born 4 Feb 1824, Dudley, Worcester d. Sep 1898, Liverpool, buried in Toxteth Park Cemetery, 14 Sep, 1898. Finding his christening record is the key to confirming all sorts of information available through the beta family search site which contains a tree for the Perkes/Perks line back to Old Swinford, 1689. This Thomas Perkes was apparently christened 28 March 1824 Wombourne, Staff. A number of helpful people on the Staffordshire list directed to me to the parish records available at the Wolverhampton site. I could not find my Thomas there. http://www.wolverhamptonhistory.org.uk/resources/indexes I have looked at maps and it seems that Dudley and Wombourne are not far from each other. So, I have two questions: 1. Is it plausible that someone born in Dudley would have been christened in Wombourne? 2. Since I can't devote myself to this full time or get out in a car to an LDS centre here in Quebec Canada, could any of you refer me to researchers in Worcester who I would be happy to pay to find the actual parish birth/christening record for my Thomas Perkes? I have checked the list of researchers offered by the National Archives but I don't see anyone with an interest in the West Midlands. Many thanks, and best wishes for the holiday season. Sincerely, Carolyn (Canada)
