    3. Hello Eric, *IF* the entry on the IGI shows "JOHN OSBORNE, born abt 1758, WOR, Bolton" then it is almost certainly a Patron Submission - and in all probability an estimate or even blind guess by the person submitting it. I'm unaware of a 'Bolton' anywhere in WOR - at least there's not been a parish with that name. Possible mishearings of WOR Places could include: Baughton Boughton Broughton (Hackett) Bayton Himbleton but these can be no more than guesses, too... Yep, still there, a bit run down now ever since the advent of the motor car as it is not close enough to the town centre for people to walk there and has little parking. Little change to much of the housing over the last 100 years too so there is a good chance that whatever you are looking for is still there. I'd like to find out if he was in the service and/or find pictures of various uniforms to try to identify his. I don't have a photo copy yet so don't know if there are any identifying marks on the uniform. How would I go about finding out if he was in the army? Sincerely, Kay Andrews Pittsburgh, PA

    3. Thank you, John. I take it 'Lieutenant Colonel' was the occupation of the father, Charles? Is Lark Hill near an army barracks? I know the Charles Middleton, father of the Herbert Taylor I am looking for was a colonel, and later a major-general later in life in Maidstone, Kent. Herbert Taylor has elluded me until now. This look like him. I Brettell Lane is just north east of the Platts at Amblecote near Stourbridge where in the 1830’s Thomas Webb the glass manufacturer moved into the Georgian mansion known as Platt House and set up the Platt Works. At one time in the 19th century there was a forge to the south of The Platts. Regards Jacquie >

    2. John Tysoe
    3. Hello Ann, First off, 'Droitwich Spa' is the same place as Droitwich. The 'Spa' got added to the name in an attempt to upgrade the image of what was a very grimy little industrial town that eked-out a living boiling Natural Brine into blocks of salt. Yes, you can still take a Brine Bath - "Saltier than the Dead Sea" - when you visit, but you may need to Book... St Peters - and its graveyard - are still there (although I don't know what the state of the gravestones might be). It's around ½ a mile East and South of the town centre, but isn't accessible by any *simple* route by road. "Foreigners"*** really need a Street Map or a Native Guide! *** That's EVERYBODY who - and both whose parents, too - wasn't conceived, born and raised in Droitwich :-) Spetchley is some 6 miles away - a little East of Worcester on the road to Stratford on Avon. Dodderhill is a sprawly and centre-less Parish immediately to the North and East of Droitwich - it's CofE Church is now within Droitwich' boundary. I don't know Henwood, but there's a Hen Brook which flows East-West a shade to the North of the Radio Transmitter Towers.
