Hi List Can anyone please help me trace my cousin's family? They are Tim and Yvonne Palmer and they were living at Hunt End, Redditch, when last I was in contact. Since then they have moved and correspondence is coming back and telephone messages to their old number are not passed on. Gordon Mead

Her parents were Richard KENDRICK and Julia Ann LAWRENCE. I don't know William's parents. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Gwen Gray Utah Hi Gwen,I had a look for you on the 1871,1881 and 1891 census,Julia Kendrick's maiden name was actually Croft, she was the daughter of Ambrose and Esther Croft, she was born in Berrow,on the 1871 census it shows Richard and Julia with their children : George born 1863,Arthur born 1864,Richard born 1864,Alice born 1868,Elizabeth born 1869, on the 1881 census Julia is in the workhouse with Eleanor born 1873 and William born 1875,Richard is nowhere to be found and their daughter Elizabeth was living with their grandparents Ambrose and Esther Croft in Berrow, in the 1891 census Julia was living with her mother Esther Croft,if you would like copies of the census returns let me know also if you let me have what information you have on William Slade I will have another look, there was A William Slade living in Berrow who was a farmer possibly Williams father,by the way Richard was born in Birtsmorton and was a bricklayer as was the rest of the male Kendrick's from Birtsmorton, the female Kendricks were mainly glove makers, I hope this helps Bill Ware.
Hi Helen, Very many thanks for getting back to me so quickly with the information. William's stated birthplace of Stoulton does fit with the birthplace given in 1871. I've had a look for a christening for him in Stoulton in the IGI but drew a blank. Kezia was christened in Berkeley, Glos and so Woodford (as given in 1851) was not too far out. She did state Berkeley as her birthplace in the 1871 and 1881 censuses. Once again, many thanks for your help. Kind regards Joan

Hello Paul, What you don't say is whether or not you've looked for them in the Herefordshire 1851! For your reasoning that they 'must' have been living in Worcestershire seems flawed at best. West Malvern Ecclesiastical Parish, where they married in 1850, was only created in 1844, and it's early name was 'Mathon St George'. Although administratively in Worcestershire, it was in Ledbury Registrtion District, and so treated for Census Purposes as being in Herefordshire. Leigh Civil Parish included what are now Malvern Link and North Malvern. Cradley ('always' in Herefordshire) adjoined both Leigh and Mathon. Births had to be registered in the District in which they occurred - and *NOT* where the mother (usually) resided. Four Registration Districts, in two Counties met within ¼ mile of West Malvern church. They could have been living in Worcestershire - but recorded as being in Herefordshire in the Census... Reposting: Could someone with an 1891 index please look for Alice Price age 12, born in Worcester probably still in the Worcester area. Her mother's name is Kate age 47 if still around, but I don't know if she would still be a Price by then. I have the 1891 disc but no index! Any help greatly appreciated, TIA Vivien
Thank you all who replied to my earlier posting. Some asked a few extra questions - hence the composite response. Certainly the Charles Simmons (or Symonds) is the one who married Sarah Hadley in West Malvern in February 1850. Interestingly the marriage certificate describes both as being of full age even though Sarah was clearly only about 17 - but she was pregnant. Their first child, Helen, was baptised in West Malvern just six months later. According to the 1861 census Helen was born in Leigh, Worcestershire which is just outside Malvern. I think therefore that in 1851 they must have been living in Worcestershire and were probably just missed off the census. I have come across that quite often, especially with ancestors who could not read or write. I had always assumed (just guesswork) that that was because they could not fill any forms in and the census officials would soon get fed up with calling on them if they were always not at home for whatever reason. Thanks again to all who tried to help but it looks as though I am not going to get any further forward in finding much out about Charles. Regards, Paul Taylor

Dear Joy, -----Original Message-----I hope to spend a couple of days soon tracking down some of the villages where my WOR GGP lived. I wonder if you can help. I have a map of Leigh and Bransford and would like to know, please, where Lane End is or would have been.----- I can't help you with directions. However, you may be interested to know that in 2002 the Parish Council published "The Book of Leigh & Bransford : the Parish Past & Present". It is a superbly written and illustrated book (including a picture of one of my great aunts as a child at a village fete, and other pictures of her KIMBER family from the village forge), but in case it would fall foul of no-advertising list rules I will tell you more if you would like to contact me off-list. Hi there, I have just returned to this list following on the trail of family jumping from County to County around 1861! Just received the birth certificate of a fatherless Charles Whitby born to Phoebe Whitby on 3rd May 1857 at Sedgley in Stafford. In 1860 I believe this unwed mum was married at Saint Thomas Dudley, Worc to a John Rogers. Now information I have been given is that if they then settled in this area then the St Thomas area of Dudley is nearer Netherton, and if so, this would be part of Dudley Worc, not Dudley Stfs. So is that enough info for a shot in the dark or rummage through the hay? Looking for a 3-4 year old Charles ROGERS (WHITBY) with mother Phoebe and father John in that area in the 1861 census. Can anyone help? they are definitely not in the area where little Charles was born. Your help would be greatly appreciated Bob in Brisbane
