    3. Hi Derek Having been born in Little Hampton and spent my first 28 years there you had me bewildered as I had never heard of Park Farm. However there may be a slight chance that it is now called Hampton Park Farmhouse and is the headquarters of a boat hiring firm called "Challenger Syndicateship". Look at www.challengershare.com . The address is Red Lane Hampton and is on a narrow track that leads from Hampton to Charlton. Look at www.streetmap.co.uk coordinates 402500, 244500. 3. Derek Great Hampton is still around and in Worcestershire, just South-West from Evesham across the R.Avon. Don't know why it didn't come up on web. This site: <http://www.wdcra.org.uk/greath.htm> is for the church of StAndrew in Great Hampton. On the current Ordnance Survey maps the village is referred to as just "Hampton" If you go to: <http://www.ordnancesurvey.co.uk/oswebsite/> and type the OS reference SP029431 into the box that says Placename or Postcode... (it accepts OS references as well) you will come up with Hampton. Can't see Park Farm though. Good hunting. 3. Hello I am renewing my search for my 3rd gt grandmother, Ann BISHOP and hoping to solve the puzzle. Ann (nee SIMMONDS) was married to William BISHOP on 17th March 1835 at Claines and had 3 (known) children, John Edgar b.1837, William Broughton b. 1840 and Charles James b. 1841. They all lived at Bridge Street, Worcester in 1841, but there is no sign of Ann after this time. I have all the other BISHOP's on all the following censuses apart from Charles James in 1851. I believe Ann BISHOP died between 1841 and 1851 but having sent for every death of Ann Bishop registered on the GRO (up to 1860) I haven't been able to find her. Her husband, William, was in Nottingham as a visitor in 1851 with one son, John, and son William was in Worcester with a relative. William remarried in 1860. I was wondering if she was in an asylum and wondered if anyone knew where the Worcester asylum would have been and if it's possible to get a list of any admissions for this period. If someone died in an asylum I would presume that the death should still be registered in the normal way or would it be possible that some went 'astray'? Does anyone have any other ideas on how to find her death? Hoping someone is able to help or if anyone is researching these Bishop's I would love to hear from you. Regards Ally

    1. Re: [WOR] Apprenticeship records
    2. John Tysoe
    3. Hello Joan, There'd certainly have been time for your William TAYLOR to have served a 7-year Apprenticeship between 1851 and his marriage - but records of Apprenticeships in rural areas are somewhat sparse. While Worcester Records Office has an "Index of Apprentices" the contents are almost exclusively of those within the City Boundaey, and recorded by the City Corporation. They *may* hold another index on cards or slips of other Apprentices (those "put out" by Poor Law Overseers) - but I can't be certain on that one. [Posted to List for possible correction by someone who knows more!] In general, though, a Rural Apprenticeship would be likely to be a Private Agreement between the Master, the Apprentice and the Apprentice's Guardian or Parent, drawn up as a Duplicate Deed (either by a local lawyer, or merely by copying an earlier one and changing the names - which would be cheaper all round) - and with no formal Registration anywhere. 1. Help please? researching BATEMAN/GIBBS
    2. Proutings
    3. Hi I am new to this list. My research has just moved into this area. My GGGrandfather was Benjamin BATEMAN baptized 19 Oct 1823 at St John Bedwardine. Parents were William BATEMAN b abt 1795 buried 1 Dec 1826 married 24 Dec 1822 at St John Bedwardine to Sarah GIBBS b abt 1801 buried 12 Apr 1825 at St John Bedwardine. When Benjamin was born Williams occupation was given as Glover living at what looked like (Nr)?? Pitmaston, any idea what and where this could be? It was hard to make out. Both William and Sarah signed the register and with good handwriting. Would a glover be educated enough in 1822? Benjamin is a bit of a mystery as he turns up in 1851 in Norwich as a Tea dealer/ Wine merchant and by 1871 income from houses & Annuity (I think). He died before 1881 but his wife is given as Annuitant. I am wondering how an orphan son of a glover at 3 ends up like this. Any body on the list researching these names? I would also be grateful for any back ground information on the area, occupation and the church. Also where do I look for wills? Sorry for all the Qs., but any help with this would be gratefully received. regards Sharon in NZ

    3. A diary of an ancestor describes taking an afternoon walk in 1864 and firstly, visiting the Worcester Water Works then on to visit an Uncle's grave at the new cemetery. Bearing in mind that 10 miles was considered an afternoon stroll in those days, and that the ancestors concerned were staunch Wesleyans, which cemetery would be the "new cemetery" back then? 3. Hello again Roger, First off - I think you should look at your e-mailing set-up, as every message you send comes with a request to download a 12-minute translation package..... But as for your question, the Cemetery would be the City Council's Cemetery in Astwood Road, which opened in 1858. It's about 1Ľ milesEast of where the Water Works then was. 2. John Tysoe
    3. Hello Liz, Drakes Broughton is/was indeed in Pershore Registration District. But it didn't exist as a separate Civil Parish until 1958, when it was created as Drakes Broughton and Wadborough out of some of the Rural Part of Pershore Civil Parish. In 1898 it was in the Civil Parish of Pershore Holy Cross, but it would appear never to have been a separate Ecclesiastical Parish. In 1898 it was a part of "Pershore, St Andrew & Holy Cross, with Pinvin St Nicholas, Wick St Bartholomew, & Bricklehampton St Michael & All Angels" so a CofE Baptism is most likely in Holy Cross or St Andrew.
