    1. Harriet GOODYEAR
    2. Evelyn Seeburger
    3. Hi all, I'm searching for info on an ancestor Harriet GOODYEAR born abt 1848. In the 1851 census she is 3 yrs old, living with mother Elizabeth GOODYEAR (my g-g-grandmother) in Grimley WOR. After that I cannot find Harriet or Elizabeth. On the 1861 census index with Ancestry there is a Harriet GOODYEAR, born 1845 in Herefordshire, living in Worcestershire that looks interesting. Does anyone have access to the 1861 census that could give me particulars please? I'm hoping if I find Harriet I'll find Elizabeth..... Please note my new email address. Thanks very much, Sincerely, Evelyn Seeburger seeburger@hsfx.ca

    1. Is some of my 1851 census missing?
    2. Hi all Please could anyone with the 1851 census for Dudley check if I have some missing? I am having difficulty tieing it up with my ancestors identified on the 1861 census. In the 1861 census they were residing in the Dudley, St Andrews Enumeration District 42. This included St John's Street, Griffiths Buildings, New Steet, Church Street and Church Road. I can't find any of these on the 1851 census. Enumeration District 41 (1861 census) links up with Parts 5/3 and 5/4 of the 1851 census. Enumeration District 43 (1861 census) then seems to tie up with Part 5/5. On the CD I have Part 5 consists of Part 1 - 5 then 6a, 6b,6c, 7a, 7b, 8 and 9. It could just be that 42 was a new area by 1861 but I thought it was worth asking. Any help appreciated Many thanks Jean

    1. Site Update - Parishmouse Church Photos
    2. S LLOYD
    3. Hello All Parishmouse site has been updated today as follows: 1. Broughton Hackett added - includes external and internal views and photos of gravestones and memorials which will be searchable by name once the index has been updated. 2. Earls Croome has been added 3. Stock Green Baptist Chapel has been added The following will be added to the existing parishes as I get time: Update to Bradley - Gravestones photographed; Hill Croome; Hindlip; Bromsgrove - St Johns, Kempsey; Churchill; White Ladies Aston; Dodford - photographs have been taken and will be uploaded soon! I may put up just the churches for the above parishes first with the memorials etc to follow as it will take me quite a time to add all the descriptions. St Johns, Bromsgrove already has over 200 gravestones to add descriptions to with more to be photographed! So just the photos of the churches may go up over the next few days. I will send an update as and when they do. The address is www.parishmouse.co.uk All the best Sally

    1. Help with my STOKES lines, please!!
    2. Joy Hungerford
    3. Hi Listers This probably sounds naïve, but believe me, it's a real problem. One set of my GGP came from WOR, Thomas STOKES and Lucy WOODWARD, who married in Upper Howsell in 1870. They each had a STOKES as a parent. Thomas's parents were Charles STOKES and Ann NOTT, m St Edburga, Leigh, in 1847. Lucy's were William WOODWARD and Ann STOKES, also m in Leigh, 1846. Charles and Ann STOKES are not related, as far as I can tell. To make things worse, William's mother was Mary STOKES, who is unrelated to either of them. It seems that severe deafness ran in Mary's family, affecting at least her brother and one of her sons. I now find that Ann STOKES, (father John) had a mother Ann [EVANS], whose parents were John EVANS and Elizabeth . . . STOKES! It's the recording which is getting to me, kind listers. One name is tough enough to organise. How do I distinguish between files on these four unrelated lines of STOKES - bearing in mind that at some stage, two or more might happen to link up. If anyone has had this problem, or has bright ideas about dealing with it, please let me know. Kind regards Joy also looking into LINTON, STEPHENS, LAURENCE, GARRET (Leigh/Bransford, Kempsey) and HARRIS, WARD, YARNOLD (Peopleton, Pensax, Halesowen)

    2. S LLOYD
    3. Hello All Parishmouse site has been updated today as follows 1. St Mary's Chapel, Lower Bentley near Stoke Prior, Worcestershire 2. Warndon, St Nicholas in Worcestershire has been added 3. A message board has been added to the site so requests for help for surnames, occupations and of course places and census queries. There are also forums for software help and general enquiries. You can also post requests for parishes to be photographed so that I know where I should be going! It has only been put up today so I am the only member at the moment and it is getting pretty lonely!! What we need are some pioneering soles to start the whole thing off :)) I hope to get a few more parishes up in the next few days but the weather has been so good I have been out with the camera. The following will be added to the existing parishes as I get time: Stock Green Baptist Chapel; Update to Bradley - Gravestones photographed; Broughton Hackett; Hill Croome; Earls Croome; Hindlip; Bromsgrove - St Johns, Kempsey; Churchill; White Ladies Aston; Dodford - photographs have been taken and will be uploaded soon! 3. Jean, If you have easy access to the censuses, track all the Joseph Graingers. Then you may be able to exclude the others, leaving yours behind. There is also another reason for doing this. There may in deed be a relationship between the many GRAINGERs, since sibling brothers may pass on their names to their own children and repeat through genearations. Therefore this technique may not be a waste of time. Are there many other GRAINGERs in the area, if not the likelyhood of this being the case increases? -- Mike Yegwart Bromsgrove Branch Chairman BMSGH bmsgh.org > <I'm really stuck! 3. Hi Jill, I grew up in that area, although it is gosh over 30 years since I moved away, I am still very much in touch, as my paternal Ancestors are from Lutley. Lutley is part of Hayley Green as is Walsall Grove. You have Hagley at one end on the main road into Kidderminster, then coming north east you come into Hayley Green, Hasbury and then into Halesowen town. Walsall Grove and Lutley in 1891 were farming communities, today they are housing estates. I don't know The Crescent, but I would think it was a residential home, could it have been the home of a relation, a sister or someone? Poor Elizabeth, her death sounded awful. My Hayley Green interests are Willetts, Holloway, Lee and Coley if you have any connections. Best Wishes from Linda.

    3. Hello Jill, It certainly wasn't unknown for abdominal operations to be cerried out in a patient's home as late as the early 1920s. One of my uncles had his appendix removed at his parents' house when he was around 11 (c.1924) - as I learned from my father when I was recovering from a similar operation (in hospital!) at about the same age. My grandparents still lived in the same house, and both Grandad and Dad had no little pleasure in showing me the room - a little box-room over the front door - and telling me what they'd had to do by way of pre-disinfecting etc. Needless to say, this gory-minded little boy thoroughly enjoyed the whole story. My then "baby brother" had an operation on his ear at home in the Spring of 1948 (just before the NHS was instituted) - but as I was away at school at the time I never found out what was involved :-( As for your Elizabeth DAVIS' unfortunate experience, it may well be worthwhile looking at a County Directory or a Voters' Register in case sufficient detail is in either to establish who was resident at 10 The Crescent at the time. (Although for a semi-rural area, neither may give street numbers.)
