    1. new lister interests
    2. Hi I have just joined this list having decided to spend a bit of time researching my links in the Worcestershire area. My 2xGt Grandfather Eli COOK was born in Old Swinford in 1827 he was married to an Eliza? b. Kingswinford in about 1826 and they had 3 children - Ann (1848), George(1850) and Hannah(1854) before Eliza died in 1856. After her death Eli moved north to Durham but his children appear to have stayed behind. Eli's parents were John COOK(1801) and Esther CLAYTON(1807)who were married in 1826 in Kingswinford, and had 9 other children. Esther ided in Hay Green Lye in 1858 and John in Lower Lye in 1867. I would love to hear from anyone who may have a connection with this family or who may be able to provide more information on John and Esther's births. I should point out that birth dates that I have put in brackets are approximate (from 1861cencus) Look forward to hearing from you Susan Lamb in North Yorkshire if I can be of any use to anyone :-)

    1. [WOR] MILLWARD, Kidderminster
    2. Nigel Brown
    3. Dear Eric, -----Original Message-----I then startred to look further afield and noticed that a Benjamin had died in the Kidderminster area in 1876 aged 86 which fits my ancestor perfectly. There were also a few Hannahs in the same area who could fit. I have seen your recent request on the List and wonder if you can throw any light on someone in my family tree? A branch of my Cradley (Black Country not Malvern) RAYBOULD family left for Birmingham in the early 1800s to work in the gun trade there. I am in regular contact with direct descendants, in fact the families have remained in contact for 200 years. William Raybould, my second 4 times removed, married Jane MILLWARD at St. Peter & St. Paul's Parish Church, Aston on 12 May 1856. Jane's year of birth is suggested as 1836 by her marriage certificate (age 20 when she married William Raybould in 1856) and by her death certificate (age 54 in 1890) 1838. However, according to the 1881 Census (age 43 at 48 Hewlett Road, Bow, London) she may have born as late as 1838. There is an IGI record of a christening of a Jane Millward in Kidderminster on 11 June 1832, with parents Benjamin and Ann. The name of this Jane's father and the place of birth "fit" with Jane and William Raybould's 1856 marriage certificate, on which Jane's father is given as Benjamin Millward, weaver, and and with the 1881 Census on which Jane's birthplace is given as Kidderminster. However, it could be that this Jane died in infancy and that the name was given also to a later child. I have looked at Jane Milward in your family tree, daughter of Benjamin and Hannah and wonder if my people might be your Kidderminster connection? Best wishes, Nigel Brown Wolverhampton

    3. Joyce It is not a "Free" census link as you are required to register with Ancestry.com to access the specific record. 3. May I thank all who replied to my request for a look-up. The response was so good that I owe it to you to explain why I made the request. Benjamin MILLWARD and Hannah (RADFORD) were active in the Fenny Bentley area of Derbys about 1820. By 1851 3 of their children were in Stockport but I have found no records of the parents after 1820. They are not in the Staffs or Cheshire or Derbyshire censuses and there are few possible death records. 3. Hi John, To the best of my knowledge and belief, the ONLY place you'll be able to see the Worcester Marriage Licence Applications is at Worcester History Centre. They're filmed in monthly batches - but not usually in date order within each month. BUT... By the time you are interested in, the information shown is greatly reduced, being very little more than what appears in the Marriage Register itself :-( Gus ----- Original Message ----- From: john richardson <jjminfiek@ntlworld.com> To: <ENG-WORCESTER-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, May 25, 2005 10:35 PM Subject: [WOR] Marriage licences > Hello , > > Could someone explain where I would be able to look at MARRIAGE LICENCE details for marriages between 1814 and 1836 in various Worcester parishes? > Are these on line anywhere? > > John > Eaton Socon > > > ==== ENG-WORCESTER Mailing List ==== > Transcribers wanted for Worcestershire FreeREG > for more information see http://freereg.rootsweb.com > UK Census on-line > http://freecen.rootsweb.com/ > http://www.worcestershiresurnames.co.uk/ > >

    3. Gus Is there an actual date affixed to the form. If it is close to the actual birth date it is possible it is in fact a "receipt" provided at the time of registration as opposed to a Short Form Certificate requested later. This could explain the differences. Bob Sunny Queensland

    1. Birth Certificates
    2. Keith N Houghton
    3. I have read the correspondence by John Tysoe and Lin Watterson with some interest. Thankfully, no-one has had to sort through my effects yet, but I do have a birth certificate such as they describe. Mine is a flimsy, 140mm x 110mm "Form of Certificate of Registry of Birth or Stillbirth" issued in Bromsgrove in 1938 (did they specialise in these, I wonder, Lin?). It simply certifies "that the Birth of a male/female child (still)/born on the (date) has been registered...". It gives the entry number and Registry book number (not the same, incidentally, as the GRO reference), the name of the informant and their "qualifications" (i.e. mother, in my case). It nowhere gives the name of the child!! I believe cost was a factor in my mother obtaining this form of certificate, and it sufficed for my purposes until 1959 when, for some reason which now escapes me, I obtained from the Bromsgrove Registry Office a slightly more robust note measuring 160mm x 160mm, which gives my full name, sex and birth date and a statement "that the above particulars have been compiled from an entry in a register in my custody". I do not recall why I was not given a full copy of the entry itself. However, this got me through life until earlier this year when, at the age of 67, I was finally required to obtain a certificate showing the names of both my parents in connection with my application for Australian citizenship. And this answers Lin Watterson: ("I guess if we sent for copies today we would get the full details") -- yes, you would. Best regards, Keith Houghton, in Sydney (Oz).

Right now I'm checking a lead on my g-g-g-grandparents William & Mary GOODYEAR. Thanks to information provided to me by Keith Price, I discovered there is a burial entry for Grimley WOR as follows - William GOODYEAR buried 24 Sep 1871, 89 yrs old, address World's End WOR. I had originally assumed that William had died before 1871 because I couldn't find a William GOODYEAR that fit my criteria on the 1871 census index at Ancestry.com. However I reasoned that If William was buried in September, then he should be on the 1871 census. Upon checking again for possible mistranscribed entries, I found the following entries - > > William GOODQION, born abt 1773, born Worcestershire, living Worcestershire > Mary GOODQION, born abt 1792, born Herefordshire, living Worcestershire > > Allowing for the obvious mistranscription errors, there is a good possibility that these are my g-g-g-grandparents. Is there anyone who has access to the 1871 census who could check out these entries please? William and Mary are likely living in World's End WOR (Keith tells me this is a hamlet near Grimley). I'm hoping they are living with or beside other family members. > > Thanks, > > Evelyn > seeburger@hsfx.ca > > > > ==== ENG-WORCESTER Mailing List ==== > FreeREG Project: parish register database > http://freereg.rootsweb.com > > UK Census on-line > http://freecen.rootsweb.com/ > http://www.worcestershiresurnames.co.uk/ > > >
