Hello everyone, I am trying to find where an ancestor and his family lived. The ancestor is Richard Jarvis, born at Ebrington in the Cotswolds and also buried there but who died in the Workhouse at Shipston on Stour. Most ancestors have been found in the Cotswolds, but Richard and his family do not appear there. I have just received a certificate confirming his death at the Workhouse but still need to know where he was living prior to entering there. Can anyone help with the following queries? 1. Is it possible to access documents from the Shipston Workhouse which might show where the inmate was living prior to entry. 2. Was there a 1841 census for Worcestershire when Richard would have been 75 years of age. Any help much appreciated. Regards to all, Colin Jarvis.

I do apologise if you are already aware of this, but Shipston on Stour is in Warwickshire these days. Around that area there are many county borders such as Oxfordshire, Northamptonshire, Warwickshire as well as Worcestershire and Gloucestershire, so you may be faced with a large inter-county search! > Can anyone help with the following queries? 1. Re: SUBJECT Tracing ancestor. aren't we all!! could we have more helpful subject lines please Mike in Droitwich
Hi Colin, Although Shipston on Stour was a part of Worcestershire, it was a 'detached' part, with a good 5 miles clear water between it and the mainland... And 75 years ago it was transferred to Warwickshire, whose Records Office is likely to hold what records (probably extremely few) survive of its Workhouse. However, Shipston was included in the WOR 1841 Census - in Piece number 1203, "Sections" 11 (Workhouse) and 12 (The Parish). To whom it may concern I keep getting lots of emails from a mailing list. I think this mailing list is coming from you. Please let me know what I can do to stop them With regards Jacquline O'Riley

Hi My 1851 census for Dudley is from mycensuses and it does not tie in with the pages listed on the Staffordshire county index I have just bought from BMSG. Please could some one with an 1851 census for Dudley that ties in with the Staffordshire county index just check the adrresses for me on pages: 2032 - pages 206 and 358 3033 - page 41 This should help me to locate the people I am looking for on the CD I have. Many thanks Jean
Just to let you all know that I have added some photos of Claines Church to the site. I have photographed all the memorials etc in the church and those will be added over the next few days along with some graves. Not all the graves were photographed today as the sunlight was so strong it was casting shadows on the stones and would not have looked good and would have meant a lot of them were difficult to read. I only live 5 mins away so will go back another day and photograph them in a better light. I also popped down to Ombersley and took some of the outside of the church. Unfortunately it was locked so no internal photos this time. Also if anything an even worse problem for the gravestones as they were nearly all facing into the sun so again I'll pop back and take them another day. I did however get some nice pics of the village and the old school that was set up in the 1700s and I managed to stay out of all the pubs for those who know Ombersley! BFN Sally
Helena, Yes the MIs have been recorded. They're on microfiche available from: http://bmsgh.org/, then go to Bookshop on the left hand panel. As regards Edward Bladon, I believe the records of The Earl of Plymouth went missing around 1950 when the estate was sold. But I may be wrong. You may find bits it the Quarter Session records. Also someone was working on a national database of gamekeepers. Can't remember who though. -- Mike Yegwart Bromsgrove Branch Chairman BMSGH bmsgh.org

Hi Helena Whilst at the Worcester Family History Centre today I had a look at the Monumental Inscription Books and found one for Tardebigge. There are records of two Clarks- Hubert James and Joyce - both born in the early 20th century. I can send the details off list. I couldnt see a book which included Redditch. The parish was formed out of Tardebigge in 1855. If I may quote from Mike Yegwarts email of 23rd May concerning monumental inscriptions If you go to http://bmsgh.org/ then Bookshop on the left panel, then Parishes, etc, in the Worcestershire box you will find a great many parishes have had their monumental inscriptions recorded on to microfiche. I have had a look at the website and there is a Reddditch microfiche which may contain what you are looking for. Here is the other Tardebigge information:- Thomas Buckley of Hewell Lane died 20 September 1884 aged 76. His grave is in Section D from the Plymouth wall downhill. Hope that makes sense as I dont know the church or graveyard. In Margaret Dickens book A Thousand Years of Tardebigge published by Cornish Brothers Ltd in 1931 Thomas Buckley is mentioned on page 107 as he was Lady Windsors bailiff. It appears that in the 1860s some of the old farms disappeared altogether, such as the Dial House Farm and Bournes . The Park Gate Farm, opposite the lodges , was pulled down and plantations were made there. This farm, which had been the Home Farm , was transferred to its present position, the large farm buildings were erected, and the old house there was rebuilt for Mr Buckley, the bailiff and called Hewell Lane Farm Homestead, or Hewell Lane House. I see that Thomas was living there at the time of the 1881 census where he was listed as a farmer with 350 acres. Edward Bladon - I think the Gamekeeper Registration Index which is in a bound volume at the Record Office at County Hall, ceases before 1820, but it may be worth checking. It is certainly a useful way to trace the whereabouts of a gamekeeper in Worcestershire over a number of years. Kind regards Jacquie
Hello Joan I was at the Worcester Family History Centre today and had a look for answers to some of your queries in the Worcestershire Marriage Index. The following marriages licences were obtained:- 18 October 1788 Robert Rea and Rhoda Sanders of College Precincts for Worcester, St Helens 20 October 1757 George Rea and Sara Tomkins of St Swithins, for Worcester, St Helens 31 October 1811 James Rea and Hannah Portman of St Helens, for Worcester St Johns I also found the following references to Worcestershire probate of wills for people who may be connected to your Rea family:- Robert Tomkins Rea of Worcester City probate February 1892 number 145. James Portman Rea of St Johns Worcester (presumably James and Hannahs son) was dated August 1879 number 664 Hannah Rea of Worcester City, March 1897 number 142. As you know copies of the wills can be obtained by contacting the Worcester Family History Centre and quoting the full reference above. The charge is £3 plus 60p per page which includes postage. Regards Jacquie
Mary SHEPHERD, who I believe was my g.g.grandmother, died in Upton-on-Severn Workhouse on 4 March 1867 at the age of 81 years. The certificate states that her occupation was a labourer and that she died of natural decay, but gives no indication of her previous address. According to the 1861 Census she was a resident of Longdon. I have been informed that the Workhouse records for this period were destroyed sometime during the 1920s.
