As a youth worker I APPLAUDE those in favour of using the library building for other purposes than family history. Well done! In fact the ambuse to use the fiche readers at my local library at opening time resembles the rush for football cup tickets. An unsightly loud pushing and shoving mob of genealogists who love to discuss how they have managed to get their tree back to the 1st century and at the same time related to royalty. Maybe the young people can teach others how to behave!!! As for discos etc held in the daytime - I dont think so. Most young people who would attend would be in the younger age bracket, those 16 plus are more likely to start experimenting with the local bars, clubs . It would not be cool to go to a drop in centre disco. Bear in mind those who attend will be of school age and thus otherwise engaged in the day time. Also as a parent of teenage girls , I find it hard to get them out of bed and away from the mirror in the daytime!! Thus I would assume daytime activities at the library would consist more of an information and adivisory service with planning for night time activities. During the summer months most young people do tend to group with their friends outside rather than attend planned activities . And why not, the fresh air is good for you! Saying that the local police seem to have a dislike to any young people gathering and try to move them on. Something to do with them looking suspicious. The amount of times I hear - where do we move to , we want to be with our mates! You cant have your cake and eat it. If you dont want them in the streets than open the doors of public buildings. The word PUBLIC includes all age groups not just those over the age of 21. Weren't you ever young once!! Helen in Lancashire
I would have written but the letter would not go until 5.00pm tomorrow from here and no chance it would arrive on time! It is an ill advised use of the accommodation. Am I missing something here? This is a different floor of the same building? I've never been down there ... but is there something special about this building? I confess I've never been there (though I hope to the next time I'm in the UK). Is there a picture of the building somewhere? I can never quite picture it ... though I must have walked pass it many times. Isn't somewhere for kids to go a good thing?? Nick
Hello Listers I would like to thank everyone for their help and efforts in helping us find the elusive Edward. Edward was actualy Daniel - how silly of me - sometimes you cannot see the forest for the trees can you. If you ae reseaching William LANE born in Forest of Dean we would like to hear from you. Once again thank you listers. Kind regards Trudy
Ann Rock does not come under Worcestershire 1851 Census, but is included with some of the Border Towns of Shropshire in the Shropshire Census. Piece HO107/1985 District Cleobury Mortimer - Shropshire Parish Rocks Worcestershire. This district is not indexed and I have looked through the pages for Rock and cannot locate the family, I did locate Alfred in 1861 Census living in Dudley. I'm not sure that it will. What is the problem? That there might be "discos" at 11 a.m.? Is that really likely? What are you afraid of? Hi All I have just received this and it affects you if you use Worcs. Library & History Centre in the Trinity, what do you think? Sorry I do not have an email address for Mr Arnold. Can you forward this to anyone who may be interested. -------- A matter of importance is that an application for an entertainment licence has been received by Worcester City Council. It concerns the rooms directly above the Worcs. Library & History Centre in the Trinity. The applicant wishes to run a "Drop In Centre" for young teenagers and to organise entertainment for them, e.g. discos, Karate demonstrations. It is obvious that there is a danger that the thin end of the wedge may become thicker once the licence is granted. The disturbance in the daytime to researchers in the Centre would be intolerable. Hi Trudy and Charles, I had a quick look on the Ancestry 1861 census but I am not sure how complete it is. I have two different LANE families in my tree and knowing how many of them are about I was sure there should have been more hits than this. I could not find any hits for EDWARD LANE aged 6 in Staffordshire, the only LANE's that came up for Oldbury was this family, but no Edward: 118, Langley Green, Oldbury in the village of Langley. Daniel Lane abt 1855 Oldbury, Worcestershire, England Son Oldbury Staffordshire Elizabeth Lane abt 1836 Oldbury, Worcestershire, England Daughter Oldbury Staffordshire Enoch Lane abt 1847 Dudley, Worcestershire, England Son Oldbury Staffordshire Mary Lane abt 1816 Oldbury, Worcestershire, England Wife Oldbury Staffordshire William Lane abt 1815 Gloucestershire, England Head Oldbury Staffordshire Are you sure Daniel here is not Edward?, I spent many years looking for my Ernest Wyer only to find out his name was really Samuel Ernest Wyer, he changed his name willy nilly for different census returns, just a thought. If you find any of your LANE family in either ASTON, Birmingham or CANNOCK, Staffordshire this is where my family were. All the best Lynn Paterson researching WYER <Could I please ask SKS for a look in the 1861 census for Edward LANE. <In the 1871 census he is living with his parents as a 16 year old boy in <Oldbury, Stafford <In the 1861 census he was not living with his parents but was probably with a <neighbour or relative. Hi Trudy, In the 1871 Census the entry in the index says Edward but the child living in the household of William & Mary is DANIEL...and he is in the 1861 Census with his mother and father William & Mary and brother Enoch...In the 1871 Enoch is 2 houses away with his wife and family... I can send images off list if you want them... Hello All, just to let you know that I have managed to get about half of the memorials for Claines uploaded. I've also added a Blog to the site so people can see where I've been, what's coming and what I'm working on. Site updates will also be posted there probably in future more frequently than this list where I will tend to post updates every so often saying what has recently been updated ... we'll see how it goes. Charles Ok ignore my first email - I haven't learned to read yet. In 1871 There is an Edward Lane age 6 born in Oldbury living with his mother Elizabeth Lane born 1835 They are boarders with Charlotte Slim born oldbury 1819 and her son (son in law in 1861) Edward Brice born 1838 Oldbury If this is your Edward Lane he was not born in the 1861 census so it was probably his mother that I sent the information of in the last email. Has anyone any information on a Jane Harris who gave birth to an illegitimate child named Emma on 18th September 1853 at Hill Top Bromsgrove. I think Jane had a brother Edward born 1833 at Droitwich (information from 1871 census) Can't find Emma or Jane in 1861 census of Bromsgrove. Don't even know the age of Jane. Emma married my maternal Great Grandfather in Wednesbury Staffs in approx. 1875 (first child was born c 1876 in Wednesbury). Emma was living with her Uncle Edward in Walsall 1871. Hi everyone A big thankyou to everyone who replied to my query about what and where Far Forest was. I gather I will have to search Shropshire ( Shrewsbury?) for further information. Probably the reason why the family from Cleobury weren't in the WOR 1851. Thankyou, Barbara
