    3. Found this online and thought you'd like it... Here are questions that have sent in to genealogical publications: Would it be possible to send copies of my ancestors? I've looked for Grandpa for over 20 years. Do you have him in your library? I am mailing you my aunt and uncle and three of their children. We are sending you the five children in a separate envelope. We are having a hard time finding the records that haven't been kept. The critical link in my family tree is named Smith.

    1. Re: [WAR] Water Orton
    2. John Tysoe
    3. Hi Earl, Water Orton was a 'hamlet' of Aston Parish until 1894 when it was created a separate Civil parish. It lies some 7 miles East and 3 miles North of Birmingham ity Centre, and was "always" in Warwickshire. The possibly significant piece of information on the 4 Censuses are her ages, the name(s) of the Head of the Household, and where she was recorded. If the first two were with her parents, then they are more likely to know with accuracy where she was born... Employers - husbands, even - would likely only know what she had told them, and/or might enter "enough to complete the form" knowing that there'd be no way of back-checking for accuracy. Finally there remains the possibility that these entries relate to more than one individual.... HTH Gus PS There were major Boundary Alterations between Counties in 1844 and 1931 - with several minor ones between 1880 and 1910 - but none affected Water Orton. ----- Original Message ----- From: Earl Chapman <earl.chapman@sympatico.ca> To: <WARWICK-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Thursday, June 23, 2005 7:21 PM Subject: [WAR] Water Orton > Hi, > > On the 1881 CD Census, one of my GIBBONS ancestors, claimed she was born in Water Orton, Worcester. 3. Hi, On the 1881 CD Census, one of my GIBBONS ancestors, claimed she was born in Water Orton, Worcester. But isn't Water Orton just west of Birmingham in Warwickshire? Is this simply a transcription error? Here is the list of censuses and her reported place of birth: 1861 - Worcester 1871 - Worcester, Worcestershire 1881 - Water Orton, Worcester 1891 - Birmingham Can anyone make some sense of this? 1. GIBBONS - ordering records
    2. Hi Earl, If you're buying records from the PRO - and especially if you're doing it online - you have enough information without knowing the wife's name. If you tell them the index reference ( year, quarter, volume, page) and one of the party's name they will send you the record for that person. Of course the risk is that if it's not the one you want they can't check against spouse's name. cheers Graham Dixon (Auckland, New Zealand) =============================== X-Message: #3 Date: Tue, 21 Jun 2005 10:31:56 -0400 From: "Earl Chapman" <earl.chapman@sympatico.ca> To: ENG-WORCESTER-L@rootsweb.com Message-ID: <004e01c5766d$fb478b90$0a02a8c0@Earl> Subject: GIBBONS Family Lookup Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1" Greetings, I'm looking for the marriage of John and Ann GIBBONS in Dudley. I located the marriage using FreeBMD but unfortunately, the marriage page for John (3Q 1838, 18, 291) shows two Ann's: Ann Pagett, and Ann Sutton. So I need to find out which Ann is 'my' Ann before I can order the marriage certificate. If anyone has access to Dudley marriages in 1838, I would very much appreciate a lookup. I'd also like to find them on the 1851 WOR census. The Ann I am looking for was born about 1818/19 in Water Orton (parents unknown). Ann and John show up in the 1861 Census living on Montrose Street in Wolverhampton. At the time of the 1871 Census, Ann and John were staying at the Traveller's Rest Inn in Aston. Presumably they were on their way to Aston, perhaps from visiting relatives in Worcestershire. Ann shows up as a widow in both the 1881 and 1891 Census. John and Ann's daughter, Eliza, married Thomas Bennett Stevenson (my great grandfather) in Birmingham in 1877. At this time, John and Ann were living on Bread Street, a prosperous part of old Birmingham (it no longer exists). John was alive at the time of Eliza's wedding but was dead by the time of the 1881 Census. Any help greatly appreciated. Regards, Earl Chapman Montreal, Canada

    3. Earl, I can't find a John Gibbons with wife Ann in 1851 Worcestershire Census but there is a John (married) with children but no wife at home. John born Stroud, Glos, age 40, shoe maker. Children John 11, William 10, Elizabeth 6, Jane 2. They are in Fish Street Worcester. If this sounds like yours please let me know and I'll send all the details. I don't think you would need Ann's surname for the marriage certificate if you have the husband's name and the GRO ref. You could put the name Ann but of course if it's the wrong John Gibbons you run the same risk we all do! Vivien

    1. JEFFERIES (particularly Bewdley-Stourport pre 1840)
    2. Jacqui Simkins
    3. Hello List I am new to Worcestershire: this is the furthest south my ancestor hunting has - so far - taken me. This is a touch long-winded, but it was a brickwall until some recent finds in legal documents led to a Will. Do you have JEFFERIES with connections to LLOYD, pre 1835; or JEFFERIES in boat building - particularly if a Henry has gone walkabout (or sail-about) to Warwickshire by 1809? My line is from Henry JEFFERIES, boat builder, who died at Minworth, Warwickshire 4 Jan 1832 aged 44, buried at nearby Curdworth. His widow and their children were named in the will of John LLOYD of Christ Church, Surrey, proved 1835. Henry was "late nephew" to John LLOYD. John LLOYD's sister Mary (she died before 1835) married a JEFFERIES - which one I have yet to discover - and had children Henry (as above), Charles Lloyd who was boat builder of Smethwick at his demise in 1850, and possibly Elizabeth who married Wm MORLING (he was schoolmaster in Sussex in 1835). I have the will for Charles Lloyd JEFFERIES (he was married to Sophia Bill or Hill who was born Bewdley). At present, the birthplace of Henry and Charles is not known: Henry married in Birmingham to Sarah MACE of Curdworth, 1809. However, another nephew of John LLOYD - the unmistakably named Henry Edward Lampkin LLOYD - is on 1851 census at Southwark as wid, aged 45, born Stourport with just a servant at same address: in 1861 he is wid with 26 yr old dau and 24 yr old son plus servant. In my collection I also have a will of Joseph JEFFERIES, boat builder of Stourport who died 1845, but it contains nothing to link to Henry/Warwickshire. My **hunch** is that Henry JEFFERIES originated from Bewdley-Stourport area: can you help prove or disprove the hunch? Would be delighted to hear from anyone with connections or information. With thanks in anticipation. Jacqui

    3. Hi guys and guyesses, (yep - still early stages ! ) Wondering if there is s.k.s. out there with access to 1851 census who may be able to help. (I don't have addresses so I presume an index would help. ) I'm looking for George GIBBONS (age c.30) maybe Needle Finisher or similar, maybe in Redditch or Tardebigge, and wife Jane (nee CARR) age c.28. I don't know any children born before 1851 - there are none that old with them in 1861. Also - George's parents Joseph GIBBONS and Mary (nee WILKINSON) who would both be late 60s if still alive. Married at Tardebigge and children born at Redditch - so hopefully still there. cheers Graham Dixon (Auckland, New Zealand)
