Hello Elaine, Stourbridge Registration District in fact originally straddled *three* Counties - its three Sub-Districts being: 1) Halesowen - mainly a Detached Part of Shropshire (although transferred to Worcestershire in 1844) 2) Stourbridge - all in Worcestershire except Amblecote, which remained stubbornly Staffordshire until as recently as 1966 3) Kingswinford - all, always, in Staffordshire The whole area disappeared into the unlamented "County of West Midlands" in 1973, but following that County's Balkanisation in the mid-1990s it's now anybody's guess where they might be! But for all Censuses after 1841, the whole District was deemed to be in Worcestershire - so you're on the right list! Dear Carole, -----Original Message-----Does any one have the cencus for the Cradley area and could do a look up for me please. Im looking for the family of Elijah and Mira/Myra Cole, they had a daughter born in 1859,her name is Syndonia, there are other children----- In 1861 (census) Elijah and Mariah are both 31 years old with two 6 years old children, Ruben and Mary. They are living at Two Lanes End, which is at Netherend, Cradley. Syndonia was born in the April-June quarter of 1859 and christened 17 August 1859, and Frank (a brother, I think) was christened on 5 September 1870. That's all I can find for now. Is it any help? Dear Alison, -----Original Message----- would like to hear from anyone who may have an interest in the PARTRIDGE or STANTON families from Stourbridge. I'm helping my elderly neighbour research his family. ... John PARTRIDGE was born around 1794 in Stourbridge. He married an Ann and had 2 children that I know of. John PARTRIDGE was born around 1836, also in Stourbridge. He married Sarah JORDAN in 1856 in Old Swinford, Stourbridge. They had 9 children, the eldest - Alice Mary was born around 1857 in Stourbridge. She married John STANTON in 1878. John was also born in Stourbridge around 1856. His parents are Edward and Ann/Honour STANTON. I believe they were born in Ireland. All their children were born in Stourbridge so I'm presuming they immigrated after their marriage or they immigrated seperately and married in England. The STANTON's were living in Round Court, Stourbridge in 1861, New Street in 1871 and Wheeler Street in 1881. The PARTRIDGE's were living in Park Street West, Stourbridge in 1861, Wheeler Street in 71 and 81 and were at High Street, Wollaston in 1891. I've not seen the 1841 or 51 census.----- This may be easier than you thought! John was christened 12 February 1794 and married Ann Priddy 4 January 1822. They were my great, great, great grandparents. I know of five children: Louisa, Maria, John, George Henry and Edward. Maria married Thomas Ford 30 January 1848. John married Sarah Jordan, as you know, on 6 July 1856 and I have a record of only eight children (Alice Mary, Herbert, John, Arthur, Edwin, Florence, Sarah and Jesse). Alice mary was born in the April-June quarter of 1857 and I have a record of her marriage to John Stanton in the second quarter of 1878. Alice and John were with her parents at Wheeler Street in the 1881 census, also as you know. After that I have no knowledge of them. I am descended from John and Ann's youngest son Edward, who married Eliza Forrest in Cradley in 1862. Edward died when he was still quite young, leaving five children, and Eliza a widow for over 30 years. I was born very close to where they lived, 90 years later. I have traced the Partridges back to about 1710, all in Stourbridge. I have quite a bit more detail, especially about John and Ann, who were beer sellers in Coventry Street, Stourbridge on and off for some years. I believe he was a gardener in 1837, a beerseller in 1840/41 (Bentley's Directory - Worcestershire) and in the 1841 Census, a retailer of beer in 1842, a gardener again when son Edward was born in 1843 and when son John married in 1856, and a publican in 1851 and when Edward married in 1862. I hope this helps. It seems like we could usefully exchange more information. Best wishes to you and your neighbour in Melbourne. Nigel Brown ENG-WOR-CRADLEY@rootsweb.com

Hi Jean, If you follow the links on both Ancestry and Genealogy you end up at the same place: MyFamily.com Inc. This company bought out both these companies and I believe others. I personally think you will find more contacts and relatives, using the various free bits of both these sites than paying for things. Also it's been said that you can often find the same thing for free somewhere else. Or Some Kind Soul will raid their own records for you. You reciprocate by helping other people. -- Mike Yegwart

Hi Pauline, I don't know of a 'Chadwick' anywhere in Worcestershire..... Where did the details of his baptism come from? Did the 1841 entry indicate that he was "Born in the County"? The nearest suggestions I can make for Chadwick are: 1) Chaddesley Corbett - some 5 miles North-East of Ombersley 2) Childswickham - down in the South-East, next to Broadway (but in GLS until 1931) 3) Chadbury - a Hamlet (without a church) a couple of miles downstream on the River Avon from Evesham. Hello All The following parishes have been added to Parishmouse during the last week: Martin Hussingtree Salwarpe Kington (near Inkberrow) Rochford Lindridge Eastham Old Swinford Some of the above still have the graves and/or the memorials to be added. Photos have been taken of Bredon and Alcester and will probably go up this week. I will then work on some of the back log of graves and memorials etc. Have a good week Sally www.parishmouse.co.uk

They take Visa and Mastercard (among others) so the currency shouldn't impact anyone! Turnaround has been wonderful; I have had any take more than 10-12 days. Apologies to Mike. The Buried in Woollen Acts were 1666 to 1680 not 1629 as I had thought. The memory tends to get rusty as one gets older. Okay so that's my excuse!! Again, my apologies Pauline
Hi Listers, I'm stuck! I have an ancestor Emanuel Fluet who was baptized April 22, 1827 at Chadwick, Worcester. He turns up in the 1841 census at Ombersley, Worcester as age 15. He married Mary Hunt on January 1, 1849 at the Independent Chapel in the District of Gloucester, in the City and County of Gloucester. He was living at Bays Hill, Cheltenham, as a servant. Mary's father was John Hunt but apparently neither he nor his daughter came from Gloucester although at the time of the marriage they lived at Cross Keys Lane, St. Mary de Crypt. Emanuel and Mary sailed for America in 1849 but her father cannot be found in following censuses for Gloucester and we don't think he too sailed for the States.. He was a laborer so I'm assuming he moved around. Does anyone have any ideas for finding John Hunt and his daughter's baptism? She was 20 on the marriage certificate so I figure she was born around 1829. Also, can anyone give any info on the Independent Chapel, the minister was Joseph Hyatt. I realize I'm discussing Gloucester but with so many smart people on this website I figured I'd give it a try. If someone can give me a site to go to for help in that area it would be much appreciated Thanks Pauline
