    3. Hello Lyn, Wychbold was a part of Dodderhill Parish - one of the WOR Parishes that had no centre, and was composed of a number of scattered settlements - and although having become an Ecclesiastical Parish in 18xx is still, civilly, a part of Dodderhill. In the 1851 Census it was in Piece 2046, folios 416-492 (which included some other Odd Bits, but covered the whole Parish). In 1861, 2112; 75-82 (Wychbold only) In 1871, 3070; 52-87 (whole parish) HTH Gus ----- Original Message ----- From: lynn paterson <lynnpaterson6@hotmail.com> To: <ENG-WORCESTER-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Saturday, July 30, 2005 4:03 PM Subject: [WOR] wychbold? where do I look re: 1851 census > Hi there, > Could anyone please help me find where Wychbold is on the 1851 census as > mine isn't indexed. > To be honest I have looked on the 1861 and 1851 census and still couldn't > find him or Wychbold, > so where am I going wrong. > Does Wychbold go by another name?. > > I am looking for one of my Great Grandfathers who states on two census > returns: > > THOMAS DAVIS b.abt 1844/1845 Wychbold, Worcestershire. > > I have him located in 1891/1901 in Aston. > In 1871 I assumed he would be with his wife Emma by then as my great > grandmother Emma Jane Davis was b.1871 Warwickshire, but I can find none of > them in Birmingham. > > Any assistance would be much appreciated as I am having a family reunion > next week with my nan's previously lost brothers and sisters. > > All the best > Lynn Paterson > researching WYER, CLARK, SHUTT, DAVIS X2, BRIGHT, HAWKER, MOUND in > Shropshire and Worcestershire. > > > > ==== ENG-WORCESTER Mailing List ==== > Transcribers wanted for Worcestershire FreeREG > for more information see http://freereg.rootsweb.com > UK Census on-line > http://freecen.rootsweb.com/ > http://www.worcestershiresurnames.co.uk/ > >

    3. Hi fellow listers, At Christmas time some of you helped me find my HILL lines. Now I have another querry on the Worcester List . . . having already posted it to the Warwickshire List a few minutes ago Does any one know of this firm above: or about Steam Engines / Traction Rollers? My G Grandfather William Richard Hill owned a Traction Engine or Steam Roller. I'm not sure of it's exact name. On the right hand side of his Steam Roller / Traction engines that are joined together I can see 2 signs with his name and address attached: On the back engine atached to the big oval drum is a roof with a overhang that has his name: W R HILL WHITTINGTON WORCESTER and on the front engine attached to the back engine by a bar is a Square plate on the front right hand side of the engine with W R HILL WHITTINGTON WORCESTER with this firms inscription below on the side of the long big oval water tank barrel at the back called: EDWIN DANKS & C OLDBURY LTD BIRMINGHAM. Now as I'm no expert in these things can someone advise me where to look up to see if either of these names come up any where in any directory records. William Richard HILL was born 30th September 1884 @ 1 Osborne villa Barbourne, Rego district was Droitwich Sub district of Claines County of Worcester. No idea where this place is. Anybody know if it still exists? So any time after 1900 for him but the firm may have been going longer. Now I will head back to my sick bed and await any helpful replies tomorrow. THANK-YOU one and all. Your a great bunch. 3. Hi there, Could anyone please help me find where Wychbold is on the 1851 census as mine isn't indexed. To be honest I have looked on the 1861 and 1851 census and still couldn't find him or Wychbold, so where am I going wrong. Does Wychbold go by another name?. I am looking for one of my Great Grandfathers who states on two census returns: THOMAS DAVIS b.abt 1844/1845 Wychbold, Worcestershire. I have him located in 1891/1901 in Aston. In 1871 I assumed he would be with his wife Emma by then as my great grandmother Emma Jane Davis was b.1871 Warwickshire, but I can find none of them in Birmingham. Any assistance would be much appreciated as I am having a family reunion next week with my nan's previously lost brothers and sisters. All the best Lynn Paterson researching WYER, CLARK, SHUTT, DAVIS X2, BRIGHT, HAWKER, MOUND in Shropshire and Worcestershire.

    3. Hi Kathy, I'm wondering if Edwin DANKS was any connection with the firm of COX & DANKS who were 'in the Oldbury area'. They bought the German Navy from the Official Receiver and Liquidator of The Great War... The Germans had sunk their fleet at Scapa Flow, and COX & DANKS raised most of the vessels - and cut them up as scrap... As for Osborne Villas, Claines, I don't know - but I suspect it's likely still standing. Any one of the "Littlebury's Worcester (Street) Directories" of the late 1880s and 1890s is likely to include it by name - but you'd probably need to read the whole thing clear through to find it! Claines is a Parish to the North of Worcester - with a fair chunk of it inside the City Boundary - yet was nonetheless in Droitwich Registration District. Whittington is just to the South-East of Worcester. Junction 7 on the M5 is in the Parish. 3. Kathy: if it is a steam roller it will have a single, cylindrical "wheel" across at the front; if it has two wheels it is a traction engine ... I THINK! This is female-who-avoids-all-things-mechanical speak! If a traction engine your next question is what was it used for. Some would be used for towing loads, some for agricultural work. So you might find him listed in Directories: carrier, agricultural contractor, etc. If a "roller" then I presume it would be used for road building. For the makers of the machine: the Museum of Rural Life at Reading has records of some agricultural manufacturers. It might be worth a trawl on A2A as well. There are clubs (and magazines) dealing with "steam" driven machines - and maybe somebody on the list can point you to a knowledgeable person who has local information about makers. Best of luck - you should be able to put a story together...eventually! 3. A fair "cluster of crimes against God and Man"..... Hares were 'game' - and so he would have probably needed a licence, which he was unlikely to possess. It was pretty certainly on someone else's land - and thus the landowner's property - which added theft. Christmas Day - one of the two Major Festivals in the State Religion's year - was effectively a 'super' Sunday, for which the normal Sunday Laws would apply even more rigourously. There was a rhyme on roughly the same subject: "On the first of September, one Sunday morn, I shot a hen pheasant - in standing corn - Without a Licence. Contrive (if you can) A worse cluster of crimes against God and man." He'd seem to've Got Off fairly lightly in the circumstances !
