Hi Listers I am trying to find more info on the above couple who married at Reading St Lawrence. George WITTICK was born c1787 and died in 1840 in Reading, Berks. His wife Ann JONES though was born in Pershore, Worcs c1789. It is Ann I really need to find out more about as I am certain she is connected to my William JONES who was also from Pershore and moved to Reading. Any help appreciated Jules
Hi, I just subscribed to the Worcester List. I was wondering if anyone knew where I should look online or write to in regards to a marriage of Jasper Newborough who was born ca. 1585 and was married to Margery Smart on 5 April 1608 in St. Mary's Church, Old Swinford. Also, they had a son Benjamin Newbrough who died in Stourbridge 18 September 1684. Do you think this person would have attended St. Mary's Church also or should I be looking for another church in Stourbridge? Someone gave me this information, but didn't have proof to back it up. I need to conform this information. Any help in researching this area of England would be helpful. Judy Weber
Hello Again Derek: I wouldn't want to seem to be "stealing anyone else's thunder". The information on the Wolverhampton Street Names was submitted to the web site by a Peter Hickman. I merely did a 'Google' search and then sent the web site URL on to you. And, you are very welcome indeed. Barb, Ontario, Canada. Researching JONES and SMITH in Worcestershire.
For Derek Thomas I don't know if you have this information; thought I would send it, just in case. It is from a web page of Wolverhampton street names http://www.localhistory.scit.wlv.ac.uk/articles/streets/namesw.htm WYNN ROAD (Between Penn Road and Coalway Road) WYNN CRESCENT (Springhill) The Rev Charles Wynn was Vicar of Penn 1646 to 1669. He owned Steeples Farm at Edvin Loach in Worcestershire. Upon his death this was left to his brother and sister for their lifetimes. Afterwards trustees were appointed to provide a school for the children of Penn. This school was founded in 1714. The site chosen was near the top of Springhill Lane, close to the present Wynn Crescent. When in 1871 this accommodation became inadequate, the school was moved closer to St Bartholomew’s Church. It required further enlargement in 1877. At that time there were approximately 100 pupils and it was known as the Penn Wynn Schools. Today the School is St Bartolomew’s CofE School. Down the years it has bee the custom to provide school leavers with bibles inscribed as Penn Wynn Bibles (Peter Hickman)
I am attempting to find the birthplace of this gentleman who was Vicar of St Bartholomew's Church in Penn, Staffs 1646 -1669. He entered Emmanuel College, Cambridge in 1637 and was said to be 'of Worcestershire'. His will in 1669 mentions brothers Luke and Daniel and a sister Eleanor. If anyone is researching the name WYNN or has records of this family, I should be very grateful for information. The only information to date is that the family may have originated from Cleeve Prior. Thanks for that info Mike. I think I've seen something similar before, possibly where I found the index I referred to. I was hoping to see if it was relevant before buying. I looked through the index for page 97 to see if there were any clues:- Benefit Societies Deeley, William Dispensary Election Results - 1844 Friends in Goal Friends' Meeting House Odd Fellows Quakers Rawson, William Widows & Orphans Fund Not much of a pattern there, I'm afraid. Caz, I have details of a Beckley family who were Methodists in Brierley Hill, are you sure on the spelling, as we all know how the spellings can take on a life of their own? Best Wishes from Linda.

Hi John, Any LDS Family History Centre will get films for you for a small fee. To find your nearest go to: http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Library/FHC/frameset_fhc.asp You don't say what year your looking at. Our Parent society's website offers a search service, by bride or groom. Go To http://bmsgh.org/search/Wo_marr_index.html 1660-1837 - All Worcestershire parishes including those added to or lost to the County by boundary changes etc. The index also contains many non-conformist, Quaker, Roman Catholic plus many Strays. The books in the Worcester Family History Centre are only 1700-1837. -- Mike Yegwart Branch Chairman Bromsgrove BMSGH http://www.bromsgrovebmsgh.co.uk

Dear List, This email has just reminded me of one of the skeletons in my tree. It seems my great grandfather William DEELEY (born 24 Oct 1838, Dudley) may well have been in Pentonville Prison at the 1871 census, aged 30. Does anyone have any advice of how I might follow this one up? I was thinking that people convicted of a crime, say in Worcester, would be imprisoned locally. I did find a reference to a William DEELEY on page 97 of "Curiosities of Dudley and the Black Country from 1800 to 1860, CFG Clark (1881)", but haven't been able to see the actual book yet. If anyone is visiting the library (I assume Worcester or Dudley would have copies) please could they have a quick look to see if the reference is relevant to my research. I'd be very grateful indeed. Full story at http://www.schoolmates.org.uk/famhist/deeley.htm for anyone interested. John, The LDS have certainly filmed them - look in the online catalogue. If you travel to London at all may I suggest you go to their Family History Centre next door to the V&A Museum. This is where I go to view the films I can't find elsewhere. Hello again the list. I think perhaps my previous query should have been more specific! The Hugh Wallis site lists the IGI baptism entries for the various churches and splinter group chapels for this area, but stangely NO marriages. There must have been marriages in these establishments! I wonder if they are available to view? John Richardson Eaton Socon Cambs
Hello again Ruth, Now we've got a Date and we know the Court I can look when I next go to the "Real" Records Office - which I need to do in any case fairly soon... Hello List. Does SKS out there know why there are no IGI marriage records for BROMSGROVE! regards John Eaton Socon
Hello Listers I subscribed to this list in an attempt to help an American researcher (whom I met on the AUS-CON list) find out more about the convicts Charles & Michael MORRIS who were tried at Worcester. As I live near Kew I offered to look up their trial but yesterday when I checked the convict ship register I found that they were tried at the Worcester Quarter Sessions 17 October 1859. I am unable to help with this as only the Assize records are kept at Kew. I think she will now have to contact the Worcester RO - unless SKS can look this up?? I have been hugely impressed with the helpfulness of the Worcester Listers, so she may strike lucky. Best regards, Ruth
Hello All, I know it has been quiet on the mouse front lately but a lot has been going-on behind the scenes. Parishmouse has a new mouse hole at www.parishmouse.com (the old site still works but you will be redirected to the new one). There are several reasons for this. First is that the hosting company can't seem to sort out an access problem which meant that I was unable to setup the site as I wanted. This leads me onto the second reason which is the site is now based on a database so it should be easier to search the site. Please update your bookmarks and links if any. There have been several additions to the site recently namely St Edburgha's, Yardley has been added (I know a few of you have been waiting for this one!), Eckington including graves which are being added on an ongoing basis as there are 161 of them. Shirley, St James, Overbury and Kemerton have also been added. If anyone would like to submit an article for the parish histories please let me know as all are welcome. You will of course be credited as the author. In the near future a members photo gallery will be setup so that members can submit their own photos. This has been asked for but was difficult before. All this remains totally free of course! Hope you enjoy the improved site Sally www.parishmouse.com
