Dudley WAS an "island" belonging to WOR surrounded by STS. Tipton WAS a part of Dudley Registration District in 1839 (when g-grandma was born there) but IS and WAS really in STS. Now both are part of West Midlands County. There's a church on a hill in Dudley with a tunneled passage ending in a pub and a two mile subterranean canal without a towpath. I'm afraid I'll need Bill Perry to "slash" my way through this tangled landscape. Juraj :-)

Thanks so much Linda & Ruth for you prompt help. I do know that Jane (b1827) married Thomas Baker about 1849 in Worcester and had a child, Jane Frances (b1850). Mary Ann (b1835) was my great grandmother and didn't marry until 1874 so she must be living or working away. kindest regards, Al from Wirral

Hi to all, I am trying to find the following HIDE family who where all born in All Saints, Worcester (IGI) in the 1841/51 census: John Hide (b1794) & wife Jane Hide (b1794) with children Frances (b1826), Jane (b1827), John (1829), Mary Ann (B1835) & Cornelius (b1838). Any help is much appreciated, Al from Wirral.
I have a BAYNHAM who married a TOMLINS from Hanley Castle. My BAYNHAM researches have taken me back to Ralph ap Eynon, born 1306 in Clearwell, Forest of Dean which is where all BAYNHAMs come from. If anyone thinks there could be a link please get in touch. Regards Frank BAYNHAM, Forest of Dean, Gloucestershire.
When I ordered Powick asylum records I had to order at least a week in advance as they are kept in a storage facility in Gloucestershire. The good news is that the records are quite detailed - my great grandmother's records ran to over 4 pages, as did many others - so it is worth the wait! The most time-consuming element is that it is hit and miss as to which volume he will feature in - I got to the last available volume before finding the records I wanted. Hope somebody can look through the records for you. ----- Original Message ----- From: <jcweatherby@aol.com> To: <ENG-WORCESTER-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, September 05, 2005 9:50 PM Subject: [WOR] Powick Asylum > If SKS has time, I would appreciate some information from the Worcester > Records Office regarding my ggrandfather, Alfred Hemming, age 50, who died > in the Powick Asylum of pthysis and hemoptsys on July 8, 1875. You took the words right out of my mouth Gus., my rellies would be spinning in their graves if someone had told them Tipton was in Worcs. Regards Doreen
Is it possible for SKS to locate the marriage record of William and Mary BILLS ? Both were born in Tipton (which once was in WOR): William b.1806, Mary b.1809. Their first child was born 1830 so I assume the marriage took place c. 1829 in Tipton. I am seeking Mary's surname and any additional data on the pair. Best wishes, Juraj
If SKS has time, I would appreciate some information from the Worcester Records Office regarding my ggrandfather, Alfred Hemming, age 50, who died in the Powick Asylum of pthysis and hemoptsys on July 8, 1875. I understand the asylum records (approx. 1 page per inmate) are located off site from the Worcester Records office and must be ordered a day or so in advance. If SKS wouldn't mind obtaining a copy of this record for me, I'd really appreciate it. (I'm in the Pacific Northwest of the USA and don't think I'll be getting to Worcester any time soon). If you need further information about my ggrandfather, ie. spouse, occupation, dob, etc., please advise. I'll be happy to reimburse costs. Thanks in advance for any help you can give me.
John: You won't find a death certificate for a death in 1822 as deaths weren't registered until 1837. What you will find is a burial record in a parish register. This will contain name, age at death and address, all of which are useful, although the address may be very general (eg just "Bromsgrove"). It also, of course, tells you which parish church he used, which will give pointers to records for other family members. Gill, I have a Sarah Baynham born about 1815 Brierley Hill, in my tree, I don't have anything else on her family, except she married James Twigg, their granddaughter married into my Worton line from Cradley. James Twigg was from Droitwich, not far from your area of search, I am assuming that perhaps Sarah Baynham's family moved into that area and that is how they met. Just a long shot really, if you know or find anything on a Sarah that fits please let me know. Best Wishes from Linda.

Hi there, What can I say, thank you, thank you. I appreciate this so much Regards, Gill Shaw
Dear Listers, I am new to this list & am hoping that SKS can assist me with my search for EDWARD BAYNHAM b. circa 1805 ? Stowpool married EMMA TROW at Kidderminster on Jan 30, 1843 She was born circa 1823 I have them on the 1891 &1881 census but cannot find them on the 1871 or the 1861 census. By 1901 Edward has died. My main aim is to trace Edward's line but as you can see I have hit the wall! TIA Regards, Gill Shaw West Sussex
Judy Stourbridge did not have a church until mid 19th Century - and most of the pople who kived there attened either St Mary's Old Swinford or St Mary's Kingswinford - others went to Halesowen ( which wa sin Shriopshire in 17th century. Transcripts for St Mary's Old Swinford Parish Registers -are only from c1647 ( a few earlier ) but - I don't think many earlier records are available ,Kingswinford is a little earlier but no Newborough until 1685 - have located the following Newborough/Newbrough/Newbruff entries in Old Swinford. 1647 Buried Jespar NEWBOROUGH 29 May 1648 9th September Baptised Elizabeth daughter of Joshua NEWBROUGH 1649 10 December Baptised Samuel son of Jaspar NUBROUGH 1650 4 March Bapt.Mary dau of Joshua NUBROUGH 1651 24 January Bapt. There is reference to NEWBROOK of Foxcote 1611-15 in Parish Index, details would need to be obtained from Worcester Record Office. There is a Monumental Inscription on an upright Slab "to The Memory of JASPER NEWBROUGH who departed this life 23 Feb. 1770 aged 62 years. I was wondering if anyone knew where I should look online or write to in regards to a marriage of Jasper Newborough who was born ca. 1585 and was married to Margery Smart on 5 April 1608 in St. Mary's Church, Old Swinford. Also, they had a son Benjamin Newbrough who died in Stourbridge 18 September 1684. Do you think this person would have attended St. Mary's Church also or should I be looking for another church in Stourbridge? Someone gave me this information, but didn't have proof to back it up. I need to conform this information. Any help in researching this area of England would be helpful.
