    3. Hi Carole on further investigation you do need the marriage/birth certificate details as there is a William born in 1858 and 1861 in Ombersley. How do you know you have the right couple in the 1901 census for Walkers Heath Wythall? 2. Wythall Index
    3. Hi all the first thing you need is a marriage certificate or a view of the parish register for the marriage of William and Ann. On this it will give the father of William and the fathers occupation, from that you need his birth certificate with the correct father and this will give the name of the mother with her maiden name. You then look for the parents marriage in the same way if the events took place after 1st July 1837. You can then compare this information to all censuses. TAYLOR b.Tamworth Staffordshire was a widower living at Birmimgham all saints and that her eldest child JAMES was born in Warwickshire, however I could not find a JAMES TAYLOR gardener in Warwickshire. Trouble is looking on the 1841 census THOMAS TAYLOR may well have been away from home at that time. What you need really is to find him in Warwickshire on the 1851 census but unfortunately this is the only one I haven't got, the Warwickshire family history site I'm sure does free look-ups. 3. Tracey, Welcome to the list. We need a lot more information to be able to help you, especially with such common names. The 1841 census is not indexed and we have to go through all the hand written pages. So the absolute minimum needed is rough age and first names, and any other information you have - Bromsgrove is 'huge'. 3. Dear Gus, Hello! It's me, Juraj, to report that I was mistaken in claiming a church on top of Dudley Hill with a tunnel connection to a pub below. I looked through my papers and found that the hill is in Wednesbury and the church was St Bart's. There was indeed a tunnel, as claimed by one Dave Ogden of the Black Country List. The pub was the Blue Ball at Hall End, Wednesbury, aka Spittles. He reports in an old message via the List: "The Spittles owned or ran a number of pubs / inns / alehouses in the Wednesbury / Tipton area, probably the most famous being the Blue Ball at Hall End aka Spittles, by which name it is still known. This pub has many tales behind it! i.e., the bellringers at St Barts, which is situated at the top of the hill above Spittles, rang the congregation into church, then decamped down a tunnel which came out behind the pub. There they "had a few", but always made it back to the church to ring out the congregation. I was told this tale many times by the locals and never really believed it, until one day I was told that the tunnel still exists, and it does! It's there behind the rose bushes on Ethelfleda place, immediately below St Barts Bell Tower. There's more to these stories than meets the eye!" Dave then went on to state that Spittles also had another claim to fame, and that's the Wedgebury Cocking, which you can read for yourself at this web page: http://archiver.rootsweb.com/th/read/ENG-BLACK-COUNTRY/2000-09/0968029910 . Being a history man I'm sure you'll enjoy the old language and references. Thanks for correcting me in regards to Tipton and Dudley. Warm regards, JURAJ
