I am really struggling to find out details of ADELAIDE SARAH HERIOT FIGES who was born in STOURBRIDGE around 1832. Her father's name was Francis Figes. I do not know which church they went to and so am unable to locate their records. Thanks to ANYONE who can help me...
Hello List I am looking for the children of George Albert Francis and Annie Amelia HART, who were married in Tenbury in 1908. I have found 3 sons registered in Tenbury but they also had twin daughters and I cannot find any record of them, and I do not know their names. Has anyone got any suggestions – the girls had a double wedding and I have an excellent photo of it, and would love to know a bit more about them to complete that line of the family. Their mother was my great aunt in law. Many thanks. Joan -- No virus found in this outgoing message. Checked by AVG Free Edition. Folly Point is marked on the OS Explorer map 218 as an area of the western bank of the river Severn some 2 to 3 miles north of Bewdley (map ref. 777784). It is near to Hawksbatch Farm and opposite Trimpley Reservoir. There is a a cottage there but I'm not sure which parish it would be in. Colin Lloyd Kidderminster
Hi Colin Many thanks for that , It establishs that my CARTERS, in bridewell cottages and the Georges, at folley point were very close together , as both Folly point and Bridewell cottages ,are both in northwood lane (formerly Rag lane) alongside the severn railway line, alongside the river, folley point appears to be at the most extreme dead end of northwood lane , and bridewell cottages about midway , so it appears that both places still excist. Thanks Gary Hodge Colin Lloyd wrote: > Folly Point is marked on the OS Explorer map 218 as an area of the western bank of the river Severn some 2 to 3 miles north of Bewdley (map ref. 777784). Good morning listers: I am researching the STOKES/BLACKWELL lines mainly [to date] in the Evesham and Broadway areas. I have a marriage between George STOKES and Alice CAM(B)DEN in 1859 in Evesham. I do have some records of generations before George, going back to Thomas b. 1814, but just cannot determine which couple were George's parents. If anyone reading has any knowledge of the STOKES family, I would really appreciate hearing from them. June

Hello list, I am hoping that someone can help me with my brick wall. I have struggled with this for years now and am finally seeking your help. My 3x Great Grandfather was Elijah Lavender born between 1808 and 1811, died 1862. He married Sarah Dudley and they lived in the Lye, Worcestershire. I have found Elijah on the 1841 census living at Bot Lane, Lye, with his wife Sarah and two children, John and Meshack. (Ref Census 1841 Old Swinford, Worcestershire HO107/1198/7) I then have Elijah and Sarah in 1851 living with his brother John (widower). The census says that Sarah is John's wife but this is incorrect, she is in fact Elijah's wife. Again they have their children with them. (Ref HO107/2035, Folio: 305 Page: 6) In this census Elijah's birth year works out to 1811. In 1861 the family have left the brother's home and are living in a different address in Lye. (Ref Census 1841 Old Swinford, Worcestershire HO107/1198/7). In this census Elijah's birth year works out to 1808. In Elijah's death cert his year of birth works out to 1808. He died 3/12/1862 aged 54. The informant was a John Lavender. (Possibly his son). My problem is, who are Elijah and John's parents? My best guess is that they are John Lavender and Mary Gibson, as I have found a John Lavender born 1793, the son of John and Mary on IGI.. When you look at other children of this family there is an Eliza Lavender born 1807 - could this in fact be Elijah?? It seems strange that Elijah cannot be found. Also I have tried to find further traces of Eliza but cannot. I have tried to find Elijah's brother John Lavender in the 1841 census, but have had no luck. Can anyone help on this. I think that if I find John in 1841 it may help me confirm who he married and also who his parents, and thus Elijah's parents were. I look forward to any help that you can give me, many Thanks Sam Wiggin. _________________________________________________________________ Feel like a local wherever you go. http://www.backofmyhand.com
Hello List I wonder if anyone could help me trace my 3rd Gr Grandfather SAMUEL BOSWELL. born 1816/17 in Oldbury, Worcs date according to census's. There is no trace on the IGI. I have quite a few ancestors born in Oldbury and none of them appear on IGI either.. I recently hired a film for Christchurch, Oldbury, Salop but no Boswell's were on it. His father was William Boswell born abt 1789/91 a coal miner. Samuel married in Harborne in 1838 age states 21yr and lived with the family in West Bromwich until his death. Any help with my brick wall would be greatly appreciated. Mary Perth WA
Hi Paul, I'd attempted to restrict myself to what lloked to've been possible baptism locations for 1816-7 - the 1851 Religious Census gave a lot more 'newer-than-that' places which I omitted as only adding to the general gloom, on the basis that Samuel was most likely to've been baptised as an infant. That said, it's by no means impossible for hime to've been baptised as an adult shortly before he married. Despite my mother having exactly that, the thought never so much as crossed my mind... So Harborne (c. 1837-8ish) also has to be a possible place to look for him. The less-than-good news is the lack of non-con Baptisms for the significant years :-( Gus ----- Original Message ----- From: "Paul Prescott" <[email protected]> To: "Gus Tysoe" <[email protected]>; "Mary Phillips" <[email protected]>; "eng-worcester" <[email protected]> Cc: <[email protected]> Sent: Wednesday, September 05, 2007 10:42 AM Subject: Oldbury Records Mary, Gus: Oldbury is indeed difficult, but not impossible. First try is the registers of Oldbury parish church. These are almost always quoted as Oldbury Christchurch, and indeed they were after 1841, but prior to that they actually relate to the old church of St Nicholas which was in the old market place. The BMSGH have printed the registers for 1714-1812. The originals are held at Sandwell Archives in Smethwick and available on microfiche. It's also worth trying Halesowen St John the Baptist, which was the parent church until 1841. The registers are printed to 1837 (BMSGH). As with all parent churches, it is more likely to have been used for marriages than baptisms or burials. Other CofE churches are later, but for reference are Langley Holy Trinity (1848+), Langley St Michael (1890+) and Rounds Green St James (1892+). The only early nonconformist registers that survive are those of Oldbury Old Dissenting Chapel, which have been printed from 1715-1745 and 1759-1813. Later records are at Sandwell Archives. Most numerous of the nonconformists were the Wesleyan Methodists. Their registers only survive from 1823 (for burials) and 1832 (baptisms), but are very detailed, particularly the burials, which give parents' names, even for elderly widows!. Marriages only begin in 1857. For completeness, other Methodist chapels of various types were Churchbridge Wesleyan (1841+); Oldbury Green Primitive Methodists (1845+); Brades Wesleyan (1850+); Rounds Green Primitive Methodists (1852+); the Tabernacle, Methodist New Connexion (1864.+); Causeway Green Wesleyan (1865+); Langley Bethel New Connexion (1882+).
