Gus: The definitive statement comes from "The Family Record", the newsletter from the Family Records Centre. See http://www.familyrecords.gov.uk/frc/news/fr_39.htm for the latest position. The project appears to be progressing steadily, albeit that the original timescales have slipped. It's not being done in-house, but under an external contract with Siemens, so in principle the move of the GRO shouldn't affect it. I'm still looking for my great grandparents' marriage somewhere in Worcester (if there was one!). I've scoured the BMD index for a Henry WILLIAMS and Mary WILDING (or PLAYDON), but there are a so many Henry Williamses and so many ways to spell Wilding or Playdon that I've just about given up. They seemed to move around a lot so it could be anywhere from Claines to Blockhouse. If anyone knows of this marriage sometime after Henry's first wife died in 1855 then please let me know. My grandfather Walter was the youngest of at least 9 children born to Henry and Mary, and I do hope he was legitimate! Vivien
Hi Paul, But is there any news on *when* the New Index will be available - and at what cost-to-view? The most recent I could find by Googling was April 2006 - and since then there's been the news that the GRO is going to be moved to the Passport Service in the Spring - which doesn't exactly Bode Well... Hi Ann, Sadly, no... It's available for free lookups at Worcester History Centre, but otherwise it's a "pay for searches by snail mail" operation. It covers 1660 to 1837. Hello, My grandfather always said that he was born at Inkford Brook, Worcestershire, England on July 5th, 1867 (d. 1960). We later found a birth registration that shows Oldbury, West Bromwich, Worcestershire on a different date, but same person. Can anyone tell me if Inkford Brook still exists? If so, what is the location? I did find a web site that gave me some information. http://www.wythallchurch.net/History/wasmc_buildings.htm "Inkford Brook Farm (Barkers Lane SP07787397) The earliest of the three Inkford farms. L-shaped timber-framed building of the 16th. century with 18th. century additions at the west end. In the early 16th. century this was the home of Humphrey Filde, whose will refers to 'all my farm that I do hold in Kyngs Norton and SoIly hull', the river Cole, 250 yards to the south being the parish boundary.7" 7. H. M. Crant & E. A. B. Barnard The Parish and Church of King's Norton'in TWAS ~'o.l. (1 (New Series) 1924-5 p. 129. Some of my grandfather's siblings born in Kings Norton.
Looking for help in finding John Anthony born circa 1765 Worcester and surrounds cannot find baptism anywhere, have found marriage to Ann Bowen 28th June 1783 St. Clements, need to find baptism or death entry - also looking for Samuel Anthony - cld. be brothers. Any help would be fantastic.
BlankDoes anyone have access to the records of St Martin's in the Bull Ring, Birmingham to check an entry for what could be an ancestor of mine. According to IGI records, on 25 December 1794 Joseph Rose married Hannah Field. I want to find out if the fathers' names were listed or if the names of witnesses are recorded for this marriage, or the couple's ages. I think these could be some of my Halesowen ancestors, and suspect Hannah is the Hannah Field baptised at Halesowen in May 1774. Any help greatly appreciated! Best wishes, Steve Cullen
Helen, That's brilliant! Thank you very much for your help.
