    1. [WOR] Holt family of Broughton Hackett
    2. cathy miller
    3. Looking for anyone who might know what happened to the owners of the New Inn in Broughton Hackett c. 1850's- early 1900's. Thomas and Emma (Newman) Holt lived there 1880-1910 at least, their children were Elinor b. 1879, Emma b.1884 and Thomas b. 1882 who is listed as a Butcher in the 1901 census. Also listed in the 1901 census were grandchildren; Edith 11 months born in Upton Snodsbury listed after Emma and John age 2 listed after Thomas the butcher. All living in the same house the Public House known as the "New Inn" now the March Hare I believe. I do know that Emma Newman Holt died in 1903 and is buried in the churchyard. Anyone know this family?? Also related are: BLUNN, NEWMAN, SURMAN Thanks Cathy

    3. Hi all If anyone has knowledge of this family I would be grateful to receive it. They are listed in the 1881 census at Dale Cross Cottage, Blackwell, (RG11/2940/9/10). I believe Peter Turner was asking about the cottage in August 2001. I have recently found some interesting information regarding the son, Harry H SANDS. Regards Peter

    3. Well it is rather the same regarding the children here as well. Emma married in 1857 at 13 but their eldest child was not born until 1868 (at least, the eldest I have found). Thank you to everyone who replied. I have two instances of very young girls (one 12, the other 14) marrying in one family. One was an early 19th century marriage, the other late 19th century. In both instances though, there were no children registered until they were around 17. 3. Don't be too disconcerted by the "change of name". The enumerator made three mistakes with all three christian names for my family in 1901 Newport - he had Catherine instead of Elizabeth, Ann instead of Amy and Alfred instead of Arthur. He must have made quick notes at the time and then been unable to read them. I am fortunate as the family remained at the same address from 1851 until 1933 - otherwise I don't think I would have realised the depth of the problem. To reiterate - the problem was the original entry not the later transcription. Each error of this sort makes me both more sceptical but also more flexible in my thinking - double edged really. Best wishes Anne -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]]On Behalf Of Roger Jones Sent: 30 December 2007 10:24 To: [email protected]; [email protected] Subject: Re: [WOR] Bishops of Hanbury and Worcestershire - and Bishops ofMalvern Stephen On the 1901 census your Bishops are living in Court Road, Barnards Green, Malvern. 3. Dear John, Having seen Polly's posting of the Dudley Birth Registration, I'd say that it was extremely likely to be yours - a far better chance, anyway, than my Kidderminster HARRIS! I've also tried another dip into the 1871 Census - this time merely looking for "AYRIS" born 'anywhere' 1861-71 - and got 13 hits. NONE of them were recorded as being born in Worcestershire (or Staffordshire, for the greater part of Dudley Registration District was in that County - nor Shropshire nor Warwickshire as they might be considered 'close enough' to tell a Census Enumerator)... There *was* a "Hannah C." - born c.1861, Northamptonshire, daughter of a John & Ann - but again I'm sure this can't be yours. Equally, there was no likely hit when searching for "Hannah, born Dudley, 1863 +/-2". However, I'm using the Ancestry Transcription/Index which is by no means flawless (the variations they come up with for 'TYSOE' beggar belief) but the net results at least seem to indicate that she seems unlikely to've been in England at that stage. Gus

    3. Hi John This is just a reference from the GRO [General Register Office] birth indexes, telling you that a birth of a Hannah AYRIS was registered in the three months Oct, Nov or Dec in the Registration District of Dudley (which is in Worcestershire). The figures lead to the Volume (6c) and page (140) in the registers to give the birth certificate. As Gus says you really need to discover when she emigrated - this may have been with her parents which will help to identify her in this country. Also hopefully her marriage and death certificates may help a little more with her origins. ----- Original Message ----- From: "John Clements" <[email protected]> To: "Polly Rubery" <[email protected]> Sent: Thursday, December 27, 2007 9:11 AM Subject: Re: [WOR] Anna AYRIS Dear Polly, Thanks very much for your very quick reply.
