    3. Samuel Biddle born c 1867. One relation has him born in Warwickshire, but both the 1891 and the 1901 has him as born in Worcestershire. Samuel married Jane Hollands 1890 in Worcester 6c 491. They had 5 children Florence 1890, Samuel 1892, William 1895, Lucy 1899 and Jane 1901. Samuel was an Upholster on the 1891 and 1901 censuses and he was also an upholsterer on his son Samuel's marriage to Mary Gower. It is the 1881 census (if it is the correct one still not sure because of the Bedall). Sarah Biddle aged 46. She has 3 sons. William age 18, Samuel age 15 and Arthur age 7. As Sarah's parents are on the 1881 census (Frank and Susannah Knight), I have found her christening at St Clements 26th March 1837. Eveline ----- Original Message ----- From: Ann Eveline to know its the correct one you really need to know a bit more about him such as the wifes name or his occupation or the names of any children that may have been living with him. Also what census have you seen that shows his mother as a widow? Also what census have you found that shows his mother as a widow? Ann ----- Original Message ----- From: Eveline Clarke To: Worcester Rootsweb Sent: Sunday, March 09, 2008 4:56 PM Subject: [WOR] 1881 Census I was wondering if there was anyone with access to Ancestry.com who could look up an original census for me. I am looking for Samuel Biddle born c 1867 in Worcester. I have found a Samuel Beddall on Family Search which looks as though it might be the right family, but it would be nice to know if this is a transcription error, or maybe even a completely different family. On this census his mother is a widow. Reference RG11 Folio 2917/132 Page 14 I have him already have Samuel on the 1891 and 1901 census. The 1891 says born St Helen, Worcester. If anyone also has access to the 1871 census that would be brilliant as I would then be able to find his father's name. I have been unable to find Samuel on freeBMD or on Family Search. 2. Arthur Lewis
    3. Birmingham & Midland Society for Genealogy and Heraldry March meeting We will be holding our Annual General Meeting, at 7.30pm on Friday, 14th March, 2008 at the Baptist Church Hall in Sansome Walk, Worcester. In addition to the normal business of receiving reports and the election of officers this will be an opportunity for members to review the last twelve months and to consider any proposals for new initiatives. After the AGM we will receive progress reports on our Branch projects. Last Summer the inclement weather disrupted our efforts but it is now time to plan and act on the next stages. As usual our bookstall will be in Peter Taylor's capable hands and light refreshments will be available at minimal charge. Visitors are welcome to attend the meeting. 1. [WOR] New member - researching OWEN, NICKLIN
    2. Moss, Sharon ENV:EX
    3. Hi everyone, I'm currently researching some of my family that came from Dudley, Worcester in the 1800's. The names I'm mostly researching are OWEN and NICKLIN, in particular... - George Henry OWEN b. 1868 (not to be confused with the George Owen born in 1869 who I have his birth cert but it's the wrong family!) - Reuben OWEN - George's father - not sure of his year of birth, but somwhere bt 1848-1950 (seem to have inconclusive dates from various census etc) - I do know that he died in 1887 (have GRO info for it) - Annie SWIFT - Reuben's wife - I found the marriage cert bt Reuban and Annie - took a while since they were married in 1870 - and their son was born in 1868. Surprised a bit by that.... - Annie NICKLIN - married George Henry Owen (above) - this is where I may need some assistance...the 1881 census says she was born in 1866, in Dudley. Her marriage cert to George in 1888 says she was 22 (george, otoh, was 20), so that also leads me to believe she was born in 1866. however, I cannot find her on familysearch or Freebmd, even when I expand the search to include all the county. The 1891 census shows her and george and her age on that makes out to a 1867 year of birth...same with the 1901 census. The only Ann(ie) Nicklin I can find was born either in 1864 or 1873. - James NICKLIN - Annie's father - I think he was born in 1838, but his death reg shows him dying in 1905 at age 65, so the years don't quite match up. - Caroline MILLICHIP - Jame's wife....pretty sure I have her birth and death info and have the reg info on their marriage in 1858. George Henry OWEN and Annie NICKLIN were my great grandmother, Emily Caroline's, parents. Emily Caroline married to PROVAN from Scotland. sharon

    1. [WOR] Newspaper update for March 6 with 20 more copies of Berrows Worcter Jiournal
    2. Richard Heaton
    3. Apologies for any cross posting, it was just to mention I've added 20 new Newspapers Transcripts - with a few more in the pipeline later in the month. These are 20 more editions of one of my favourite newspapers, Berrow's Worcester Journal, from the reigns of George II and George III (various dates 1756, 1757, 1763, and 1771). As usual the newspaper features not only Worcestershire news, but news and advertisements from Gloucestershire, Staffordshire, Herefordshire, Warwickshire, etc. Along with "Country News" which could be any county ! News from Ireland, Scotland, lots from London, and I've included some international news, covering mainly the war in and around Prussia and Hanover, and of course North America. I suspect thats all the newspapers I've got for 1756, but I've a number yet for 1757, so I'll try to get these finished next. There are some excellent local adverts - some quite rare - and as usual some excellent news reports To locate the Page(s) of interest Use Freefind at : http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~dutillieul/index.html And once on the Page(s) use Ctrl F to locate the name(s) you are looking for Best Regards Richard Heaton

    1. [WOR] HENRY HORTON HITCHON b 1833 Kidderminster m JANE BENNETT b abt 1832 Warsop, Notts
    2. Jan & Stuart Moon
    3. This couple married in Mansfield, 1857. I found them singly on census 1841 and 1851. They emigrated to Queensland, Australia sometime before 3 April 1862, when their eldest son , Manley Henry Hitchon, was born in Tara, Queensland. They them appear in Balclutha, Otago, New Zealand. Henry died 28 Oct 1892, at Adams Flat, Otago, NZ and Jane died 1916, Tokomairiro, Southland, NZ I think that Henry's parents were Eli and Charlotte (it has been suggested her maiden name may be Nettleship), and Jane's parents were John and Elizabeth (no maiden name known) Bennett, both born abt 1791. There are 2 possibilities on the 1851 census, John Bennet b 1795 Marnham, Notts or John Bennet b 1796 Darlton, Notts. I have membership to Ancestry UK but that doesn't help me much to find births and marriages and family for Eli and Charlotte, and John and Elizabeth. I'd be very grateful for any ideas, information, etc on these people. I know a fair bit about the NZ end, but have just found the UK end. TIA Regards Jan Moon Daintree, Australia

    2. Winsome Compson
    3. Would sks have access to the microfilm of the following & kindly be able to check if these christenings are all for the one couple, namely John & Ann COMPSON? Perhaps there is also information on the dates these people were born &/or addresses or occupations for the parents. I am also intersted in locating Ann's maiden surname? I think it may have been PARTRIDGE but am not sure. The last christening is the most important one to me & the parents. In the 1841 census John, Ann & two of their issue - Thomas & William -are all living in High Street, Stourbridge as is Laban Hughes PACKWOOD, his wife, Eleanor - both 20 & their child Laban 11 months. ISSUE of John & Ann COMPSON Old Swinford C040273 1800 – 1808. 1808 – 1819: Eleanor COMPSON Cr 16 May 1819 Joseph COMPSON Cr 19 Nov 1820 Charles COMPSON Cr 22 Sep 1822 John COMPSON Cr 28 Mar 1824 Old Swinford christenings from the Parish of Old Swinford Registers 1602 - 1961, (Church of England) Refer Ba No. C040274 Srce 0527942 Film 0883731 Henry COMPSON Cr 19 March 1826 Thomas COMPSON Cr 22nd January 1828 William COMPSON Cr 1st April 1832 Some of the above issue may have moved to Birmingham. I believe Eleanor COMPSON above married Laban Hughes PACKWOOD in Wolverhampton in 1838, & later moved to Stourbridge where they are in the 1841 Census. William COMPSON (William Frederick COMPSON) married Ellen SMITH in 1856 in Stourbridge. The father, John COMPSON, born about 1791 in Worcester, I believe died between the 1841 & 1851 census. Ann, his wife I believe was born about 1796. Winsome (winbri at bigpond.com)

Yes, you are right in your understanding. It would appear that the vicar has agreed to the burial with the proviso that the death cert was produced in due course in both cases you highlight. Either the vicar trusted the families concerned or knew they would do as required. Another possibility is that the burial didn't take place on the date given in the parish register since the registers weren't made up as baptisms and burials occurred but maybe once a week, once a month or even once a quarter ahead of the returns having to be sent to the GRO. It meant that the scraps of paper could have been got out of order or the information on it wasn't complete or that the vicar or clerk was going by memory as to the date. I'm not quite sure what the vicar would have done if the families hadn't produced the certificate!
