You have looked for a death record but have you looked for a marriage for Elizabeth? very possibly she remarried. Kay <<It would seem James died in 1888, however I cannot find Elizabeth under Hardy or Maund in the 1891 nor the 1901 census. Nor can I find a death for her in this time frame. Is there anyone on the list who may be researching the Maund family in Worcestershire who may know of Elizabeth please. She seems to have disappeared off the radar!!! Hi Folks, Another way of getting what you need may be via Monumental Inscriptions. See our society's at http://www.bmsgh.org/bookshop/worc/wo_a.html I don't know the specifics on this one but there is often a map created in the indexing process for detailing the inscriptions on the headstones. Saves on the petrol money. But you will need a microfiche reader though. Another advantage of using microfiche is that if the work was done some time ago, then the ravages of time may be circumvented. I wonder if some kind person could tell me where I might obtain a map of the graveyard at St. Laurence's church. Alvechurch. I have over twenty relatives buried there. Thanks. Pam. Adelaide. Hi Please can anyone help? I have the surname HAYFIELD in my Birmingham family tree, with the first name Austin in at least two generations (John G Austin, John C Austin). I have found an Austin Hayfield birth registration in 1878 (Upton) and am trying to make a connection hoping his family later moved to Birmingham. But, I can find no Austin Hayfield in the 1881, 1891 or 1901 census - and no death registration either. I have however found a John Austin Hayfield marrying in Birmingham in 1900 (to Lucy Mary Haynes). I was hoping I could find out his place of birth on the 1901 census - but no sign of him either! Any suggestions? Many thanks Chris _________________________________________________________________ The next generation of Windows Live is here http://www.windowslive.co.uk/get-live

Just to mention incase its of interest - I've added 6 further transcripts of Berrows, all from 1757, and I've probably another 8 from 1757 to add next month . As usual this excellent title contains some quality news reports, featuring not only Worcestershire news, but news and advertisements from Gloucestershire, Staffordshire, Herefordshire, Warwickshire, etc. Along with "Country News" which can be any county which Harvey Berrow had received the local newspaper for and seen something "interesting" and worth re-printing. Some news from Ireland and Scotland, and lots from London, and immediate area. I'm contining to add some international news, covering mainly the war in and around Prussia and Hanover, and of course North America, where it isn't acknowledged to be sourced from the London Gazette. To locate the Page(s) of interest Use Freefind at : http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~dutillieul/index.html And once on the Page(s) use Ctrl F to locate the name(s) you are looking for Best Regards Richard Heaton
Many thanks to Gus and Chris for your help. I had searched 1841 census with no luck so thanks for finding them on it for me, I wasn't aware that my William Thomas Baker had a brother Benjamin. I have the right family as I know my William Thomas was born in Guntur, India. I am intrigued about Mary Ann Franklin on Williams marriage certificate he has his mother as Mary Ann maiden name Hood so will have to keep searching. The 1841 census has Samuel Franklin as a Missionary so I guess it's possible that they met in India, as Mary Ann's husband Benjamin died in 1831 just after Williams birth. Many Thanks once again Inez
It's been a while since I last posted my interests and although I've covered a lot of ground I'm still searching. If any one is researching the DYKE family from Worcester, Kidderminster and Dudley areas I would like to make contact.....I'm trying to sort out my family members and I may have cousins and non related DYKE's mixed together. Cheers Dave...BC Canada.
Hi All, I am new to this list and researching Baker and Franklin families. According to the 1851 Census my Grt Grt Grandfather William Thomas Baker is listed as stepson of Samuel Franklin, Vicar of Broadway, does any one know what the name of the Church would have been and was there more than one church? I know that Williams father Benjamin died in India but would be interested in finding out when his Mother Mary Ann married Samuel Franklin any help would be appreciated Regards Inez Melbourne Australia
I am new to the list and living in Canada am not great with the geography of England although I was born and raised in London many many years ago. I have been tracing my mothers family for some years now and have recently found my 3xGreat Aunt Mary Ann YELF born 1813 Hants married John Richard HUNT born about 1812 Hairdresser born Worcester,Worcs.John's father is given as Richard HUNT hairdresser. Looking at the 1841 census I did find a Richard HUNT age 60yrs hairdresser living on Angel Street,St Nicholas, North Worcester,Worcester with a Charles HUNT 20 and Eliza HUNT15. Although I did find a Charles HUNT on the 1861 census born St Nicholas,Worcester I have not been able to find Richard after 1841. I do not have access to the 1851 census. How would I find out if this Richard is John Richard HUNT's father? Are there any church records available for Worcester St Nicholas that I could search? Given the HUNT name is not that unusual any suggestions would be appreciated and if anyone else is researching this family I would love to hear from them. Many thanks, Carole............................
Hello Inez, There was only one church in Broadway in 1851 that had a Vicar, and he was Samuel Franklin - for he signed the Return Form for the 1851 Census of Religious Worship. The church was dedicated to St Michael, but being the only church the dedication was generally not quoted. There were 3 other places of Worship in the Parish: Wesleyan Methodist Chapel - erected 1811[no incumbent named] Roman Catholic - erected 1825 [Father Bernard, Catholic Parish Priest, St Saviour's, Broadway] Congregational Chapel - erected 1843 [Joseph Hooper, Minister] Turning to the Census Entry, the household is somewhat complicated... Samuel FRANKLIN, Head, 41, born KEN, Margate Mary Ann FRANKLIN, Wife, 40, born KEN, Maidstone Mary EAGUR [?EAGAR?], MiL, 68 [?60], born CHS, Stockport William John BAKER, [illegible]-Son, 20, born East India, Guntoon[?] The enumerator's writing is peculiar - his "d"s are most unusual, but Wm BAKER's relationship doesn't read as "Step-"..... As for Samuel FRANKLINs marrying Mary Ann[e]s between 1 July 1837 and 31 March 1851, the list is somewhat short... 1837 Sep ¼; Lewes; 7 393 - MAY have married a Mary Ann ATKINSON 1850 Sep ¼; Cheltenham; 11 294 - MAY have married a Mary Ann WILLIAMS so the conclusions would seem to be: a) they married before 1 July 1837; b) they married "abroad" [anywhere other than England or Wales]; c) he was Mary Ann's 3rd husband; or d) Mary Ann wasn't Wm BAKER's mother. It might be worth your while seeing if you can find Samuel FRANKLIN in an issue of Crockford's Clerical Directory - or possibly in the Alumni of either Oxford or Cambridge - for these occasionally give very brief biographies. Alternatively, if you can trace his death there just MAY be a brief Obituary in a local newspaper - although that's a very long shot, as such things generally didn't get published in English papers.
