Hi Wal, like other answers you have, I've only found West Stowell, which is 6 miles SW of Marlborough, NOT West or East Towell. This was from GENUKI 'Nearby Places' for Marlborough. I've also looked in 'Parloc' and googled all possible combinations and come up empty. Is it possible the source you got them from may have been mistranscribed, or perhaps written down wrongly on the original? This happened frequently. Hi Val, Thanks for your mail and included information. One of the messages I received quoted the fact that the two hamlets were in fact in existence but over time East Towel disappeared whereas West Towel actually had its name altered to West Stowel. I'm not sure if the message I received actually came via rootsweb or direct to me. Because I could not connect these places up with my name I have since transferred my attention elsewhere but thanks again for your mail. I believe I am the person who sent you this information to this list. Myrtle East and West Towel are on the David & Charles Reprint of the first edition of the one inch Ordnance Survey map Sheet 77 Devizes. West Towel looks as if it has become West Stowell and East Towel has disappeared though there maybe a few properties near Stowell Park just to the South East of West Stowell that was once the hamlet of East Towel. Hope this helps.
