    3. Lewis's 1840 Map of England and Wales is brilliant. It's at http://archivemaps.com/mapco/lewis/lewis.htm You can follow through to a general area, then get very good close-up maps of any area, including the old county borders. 3. Val Just took a look at this and was non-plussed by an apparent Motorway from Westbury to Frome and some more similar looking roads. Then I realised they are the proposed Railway Lines. At the date of this map the railway stopped at Westbury. Jim Val Burge <valburge@dodo.com.au> wrote: Lewis's 1840 Map of England and Wales is brilliant. 3. Hello Everybody, Another very useful map for Wiltshire is the one in The Phillimore Atlas and Index of Parish registers edited by Cecil Humphrey-Smith. That one not only shows the names of places but also has the boundaries of all pre-1837 parishes so it is easy what parishes adjoin others. Copies of the map are often available at Family History Fairs and the book is to be found in many libraries. There is a map for each English County as well as Wales.
