    1. Re: [ENG-WILTSHIRE] Adlam info
    2. I want to thank all of you who replied offering to help with my ADLAM search. This is what I know at this point: John Adlam was born about 1810 in England. He probably emigrated to Canada about 1830 and married in Ontario about 1833. His wife was Mary Jane Matthews b. c. 1816 in Ireland. They had 10 children between 1834 and 1858, all born in varying counties in Ontario. John died 13 Aug 1878 in Brussels, Huron Co., Ontario. His widow moved to Michigan City, Indiana, USA, to live with her daughter. An Adlam cousin who lives in Ontario passed on a family story that says the 2 brothers, John and Robert Adlam, worked their passage over from England as carpenters for a shipping line. I have not been able to verify this, but John does list his occupation in the census as a carpenter. The name ADLAM is very rare here in North America, and most of the ADLAM's in the present day US and Canada seem to be descended from John. It appears that the ADLAM surname originated in Wiltshire and most of the present day ADLAM's in England live in Wiltshire and the surrounding counties. I was hoping that someone in this area of England would be related to the ADLAM's and would have done some research on this name. I have been at a standstill on researching John, since his first name is so common and I don't know the parish he came from. I am hoping that someday I will find his parents names and town of birth. Thank you again for your time. Sherrye Woodworth
