    3. Hello Fellow Wiltshire Descendants. A while ago I was looking for a connection between the PIKE family, who had a PORTER as mother, and my PIKEs. This came from WiltsBMD births of PIKEs registered in Malmesbury. My connection is that my gran was a Malmesbury PIKE. I was put onto the PYKE family from Great Somerford as the childrens' names turned up in 1861 as PYKE from Great Somerford. Then Daphne Guthrie sent me some information from a book on Great Somerford on the PIKE family from there, whose name had changed to PYKE. I think that that changed c 1730 with a change in incumbent. I was interested and so have used Hugh Wallis' site, FreeBMD and WiltsBMD and the censi to do a family tree of the Great Somerford PIKE/PYKEs. It has helped to sort out our "unknown" Malmesbury PIKEs from the BMD, most of whom are accounted for as Great Somerford PYKEs (misspelled). The later ones were Great Somerford PIKEs, the PYKE name seems slowly to have changed back to PIKE in the middle of the 19C. If anyone would like a copy of the family tree material I have gathered from the public sources I am happy to provide it. Other names that appear in any quantity are:- BODMAN; BROOKES; COOKE, FREEGARD; GROVES; ILES (with variants); LLOYD; SIMMONS; SKULL; TANNER; WAIT and WARNER. The counties covered are Wiltshire and Gloucestershire (Marshfield). If someone on this list is also on the Gloucestershire list (I'm not) feel free to "pass it on". All the best. Mike, on a sunny wintery July day in Whakatane, NZ.
