    3. I have done quite a lot of research in Gt Somerford from a book by Portia HOBBS (unfortunately now out of print) and I quote- "The PYKE (mostly PYKE in GS) family like the SMITHS became possessed of a great deal of property, and like them they lived in the parish and were involved in its affairs. as far back as 1686 Frances WHEELER dau of Jasper WHEELER who had been lessee of Culverhouse (now called Mills Farm) since 1673 marr John PIKE of Pewsey and had that house and some thirty acres of land as her dowry. Their son Henry bequeathed it to his son John who during his lifetim bought the former Mills Farm (between Culverhouse & the river) plus Gibbons and Grove Farms at Startley as well as the the Grinfield Estate of over three hundred acres and its house by the river, now Brook Farm, where the family went to live. Four daus of this generation lived to marry but of Johns's own ten children only a boy Thomas survived to inherit the family estate in 1778.........Henry was a trustee of the St Mary Lands and John was twice Churchwarden,. Both of them married members of the SEALEY family as did Johns sister Winifred" Other PYKE marriages were connected to HEATH; very distantly to PARSLOEs. This may all be useless to you but some grain may make sense to you. My husband is a PARSLOE Desc. regards daphne guthrie of Papatoetoe NZ. daphne.guthrie@xtra.co.nz Researching areas: Medway, Kent;Wiltshire;Hampshire:Dorset; Sussex;Essex & Norfolk England.
