G`day, first time on this list from Ruth in South Australia. On the 1891 Census for Great Ringstead in Norfolk is my widowed g-grandmother Mary Ann FRAMINGHAM (nee GREENGRASS) and some of her children including my grandfather Frederick who later gave the names Arthur Wellesley to his youngest son. Mary Ann is a live in domestic servant to the Rector Arthur Wellesley BATSON, clergyman, musician and painter. Although he was born in Devon the family seem to hail from Ramsbury in Wilshire and resided at a place called the Rookery. Most of the family appear to have been both or clergyman and artists. If anyone has any knowledge of this family or where there might be portraits or photographs it would be greatly appreciated. Cheers from Ruth in Adelaide. researching:- FRAMINGHAM, anywhere. GREENGRASS, Norfolk. SINCLAIR, Sunderland, Co; Durham & Banff, Scotland. PRIOR, Sunderland, Co; Durham & Co; Cavan, Ireland. McGINNITY, Sunderland, Co; Durham, & North; Ireland.
Hi Ruth, 'The Rookery' in Ramsbury is known these days as 'Parliament Piece'. After Ramsbury Manor, It is probably one of the most important houses in Ramsbury. To see what it looks like go http://search.ebay.co.uk/search/search.dll?from=R40&satitle=ramsbury or just do a Ramsbury search on eBay and there eight photographs of the house. Imposing, isn't it? The search also lists for sale an excellent book on the history of Ramsbury by Barbara Croucher which has another photo of Parliament Piece. I'm not suggesting you buy the book but if you can borrow one through a library loan scheme, there are several references to members of the Batson family but sadly no photographs. Again, if you go to http://www.oodwooc.co.uk/ph_rams_mem1.htm you will find photographs of two memorials to members of the Batson family. Sadly, one of them is very indistinct.
