    3. Eve Sorry to disappoint you but Strattons only entered my genealogical senses when one married a Lay in Milton Lilbourne (near Pewsey) in 1854. We traced him back to his birth in 1834 to a William Stratton and Sarah (nee Clements). After James and his Lay emigrated to Australia (to the same area where Pewsey Lays had previously emigrated), other Pewsey Strattons followed. From your remarks, it seems emigration was quite popular with Strattons of the time. As you will be aware pre1837 births can only be found in the Parish registers and Bishops Transcripts (which usually can only be seen in the Wiltshire County offices), and only some of those have been picked-up by IGI/LDS. There are also a lot of missing records from the Pewsey area. 3. Hi Max Thanks, so some went to Australia, we seem to have the whole family 3 generations here in Canada of Thomas 1790-1874 Sadly the IGI is very slim in The area, but I can order films in. Thanks Eve ----- Original Message ----- From: "maxwell lay" <mmlay@bigpond.net.au> To: <ENG-WILTSHIRE-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, February 19, 2006 2:56 AM Subject: Re: [ENG-WIL] Emigrants to Canada > Eve > Sorry to disappoint you but Strattons only entered my genealogical senses > when one married a Lay in Milton Lilbourne (near Pewsey) in 1854. 3. Just incase its of any interest, as well as starting to add some new web pages for my Spanswick research, by county and by parish, I've begun with Pewsey and Aldbourne (plenty of other parishes to add) and as I'm doing so I'll be adding misc. transcripts of other records, containing a number of other surnames. So far there is a transcript of a letter in the Times, concerning Pewsey Workshouse (1840) with a number of names, a list of contributors to rebuilding Pewsey Church (1889) kindly sent to me by another family historian, and a couple of early C17th references to Aldbourne . I expect it will take a number of years (when I need a break from newspapers !) to add all I've got. The site will be re-indexed over the weekend, in the meantime feel free to have a look if of interest : http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~dutillieul/SpansCounty/Wiltshire.html Regards Richard H
