Was there a company which actually started at this time; a company that modernised; or a new steel works openned. So far each place I have tracked John too there has been one of the above things happenning. I am just curious if the same is happenning here. John was at the fore front of industry at the time. He was working at the Bedlington Iron Works, Northumberland when the first fluid steel was ever produced. This revolutionised the railways and the ability to lay safer and faster track as well as nemerous other aspects. Also at the same time in the same area the Bedlington Engine Works were making major break throughs with Railway Engine design, partly to do with the Stephenson brothers and the Chairman of the Bedlington Steel Co. I like to understand and trace my family throughout their lives and would just like to have an idea of why John ended up in Swindon at this time. I think something Railway related is quite possible. Was fluid steel introduced to Swindon about this time? Was there a new Furnace built? I look forward hearing from all you local historians out there and wait with anticipation. Kindest Regards Brian
