Can any lister help please. Eliza DOPSON is my 2 x ggm who married James Ford in Hungerford in Sept 1843. I believe Bagshot may be Bagshot Wilts rather than Surrey. Does any lister have information on Eliza's parentage. If so I would be grateful to hear. Thanks Henry Johnston Wales
Hi Henry, You appear to have the marriage particulars from the FreeBMD which are that Eliza DOPSON married James FORD 3rd Qtr 1843 Hungerford Vol 6, Pg 287. I would suggest you start out by ordering the marriage certificate from the GRO which may give you further information about Eliza that will give you a clue as to where to look for her baptism. It would appear to have taken place before civil registration. GENUKI Wiltshire does not list a town or village by the name of Bagshot, so I think you may be looking elsewhere. My Parish Locator program says that the only parish named Bagshot is in Surrey. I took a peek on the IGI and there are no DOPSON baptisms there, but there are DOBSONs. Perhaps the spelling was interchangeable. The IGI has no DOPSON baptisms anywhere in England 1808 to 1828. Were you able to locate her with her family in the 1841 census? Hi Henry, Eliza gave 'Bagshot, Wiltshire' as birthplace in the 1861 census, and 'Bagshot, Berkshire' in 1851 and 1871. Genuki said Bagshot was "Transferred from Berks to Wilts in 1844 and back again in 1895" Would you like details of her and James in censuses?
