Hi Henry, As a Dopson with family rooted in Ramsbury, Shalbourne and Wiltshire in general, I can also confirm the name is interchangeable with the Dobson variant. You might be interested to see the rather large file of Dopson/Dobson records, which is hosted on my website at the following address: http://www.rolanddopson.co.uk/genealogy/dopson.zip I did have a look for Eliza's marriage and also for a birth for her in Shalbourne/Bagshot, but came across nothing. As pointed out by Nancy, your next step really is to order the marriage certificate. This will hopefully give parent's names and an approximate year and place of birth. You might then be able to pinpoint a birth record for Eliza in that file or elsewhere. This may also help you to locate her on the 1841 census. Please send me anything you find and I will endeavor to add all the details to the file. Please feel free have a look around my site in general as well - here is a direct link to the family tree section http://mytree.rolanddopson.co.uk Roland -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of [email protected] Sent: 27 August 2008 08:05 To: [email protected] Subject: ENG-WILTSHIRE Digest, Vol 3, Issue 228 Today's Topics: 1. Shalbourne is near Hungerford and is in the Hungerford Registration District. You could try looking for Eliza's baptism in Shalbourne or one of the surrounding parishes. Dobson/Dopson (often interchangeable) is a commonly found local name. It certainly occurs in Ramsbury where James was born. Genuki said Bagshot was "Transferred from Berks to Wilts in 1844 and back again in 1895" Would you like details of her and James in censuses? I'm trying to find a record of the baptism of Francis COOKMAN. According to the 1851 census he was born in Bradford, Wilts c.1809. I'm aware this may not be true but he died before the next census so I have no other source of information. IGI coverage starts from the 1830s which isn't any help to me. Can anyone help?
