John Thomas HUMBY had been born c1853 in Bower Chalke, Wilts, a son of William and Jane HUMBY. Annie Brittnell Jane RUMSEY was born in Q3 of 1854 in Mere district (BMD ref: 5a / 217). On June 12th., 1889, in Mere, John Thomas HUMBY, Relieving Officer of Mere, son of William HUMBY, deceased farmer, married Annie RUMSEY. In the 1891 census, John was Clerk to Guardians and Supt. Registrar, living on Church St., Mere; in the census of 1901, John was Clerk to Guardians in Mere; John and Annie had issue: a) Holgate John Britnell HUMBY, bapt. April 25th., 1890 in Mere; b) Muriel Katherine HUMBY, born on Aug. 25th., and bapt. in Mere on Sept. 20th., 1891; she was buried there, aged 5 months, on Feb. 18th., 1892; c) Marjory Annie Husell HUMBY, born on Sept. 26th., 1893 and bapt. in Mere, on Oct. 17th., 1893; d) Donald Charles Rumsey HUMBY, born on Oct. 13th., 1895 and bapt. in Mere, on Nov. 3rd., 1895.
