    3. In the 1861 census Sarah Ann PRIOR (b c 1850) is living in Abingdon as a niece of David and Mary Ann PIKE. David is aged 43, and so born c 1818, and was stated as being born in Malmesbury. Sarah Ann's mother was Mary PIKE (b c 1825 Malmesbury) whose parents, William and Elizabeth were married in Malmesbury in 1824. It is therefore unlikely that Mary and David were siblings. Is anyone able to throw any light on David's birth and parents? I have all the census information about him and his marriages and death. Thanks again Mike in a cool Whakatane NZ

    3. Hi Mike - you may have already checked this but IGI has a baptism of a David PIKE in 1816 Malmesbury with parents William and Sarah. >From IGI it seems that the Sarah above may be Sarah TANDY - marriage to a William PIKE in Malmesbury in 1807. However the 1841 census is not helpful on this as you have probably seen. On the other hand - in the 1841 census David has a Susannah PIKE in the household, aged 15 and IGI has no helpful entry for this. Susannah appears to have married Isaac Bai/yly in 1846. There is an interesting family group in Malmesbury in 1861 which may possibly tie this lot together as there is also a Walter PRIOR in the household. This grouping might suggest that William PIKE snr was married a number of times. Looks like the PRIOR family is indexed on Ancestry as PRIVE in 1851 and Mary as being aged 75 with three children under 5!! Beavingtons transcription has both the correct name and ages. Of course David's marriage certificate/s would help to clear this up. First marriage possibly registered in Wincanton in 1838? as this district covers Bruton, given as son George's birthplace on the 1851, although this appears to vary in later censuses as well. Apologies if you have all this already or if it is way offbeam.
