    1. [ENG-WILTSHIRE] CROCKER m SAMMELLS, Fisherton Anger 1834

    3. Good evening everyone. I have recently found that my wife has connections to a family of name CROCKER who was married in Fisherton Anger. I have. John CROCKER bptsd 1808 Shepton Montague, Somerset marries Lydia SAMMELLS on 18 May 1834 Fisherton Anger. I cannot find them in 1841 but in 1851 the couple are found in Hound, Hampshire, but no further record of residence or death. I suspect that the lure of the seagoing traffic on Southampton Water was too much and they emigrated!!! His brother (my wife's GGgrandfather) had already spent a couple of years in Newfoundland in about 1818) Sometime in the 1870's John's neice and her husband (my wife's Great grandparents) William and Elizabeth CURTIS also go to Hound from Bruton and are found working there in 1881 before returning to Bruton for the 1891. I suspect that the reason they went to Hound was really to be near a cousin, a daughter of John and Lydia. If AKS has access to actual PRs or even indexes, I would appreciate knowing details of John and Lydia's marriage, together with any Crocker baptisms that took place in the Salisbury district between 1834 and 1838. If any children were born after 1839 I would expect them to still be with their parents in 1851. And if AKS can find them in 1841 that would be a real bonus - I have so far failed!!!! Regards and many thanks for any help Fred

    3. Hi Fred, I wonder if you could tell me your wife's GGrandfather Crocker's full name and where he lived in Newfoundland c. 1818. I am particularly interested in whether it was Trinity Bay and also how many years he was here. Interesting that there was a James Vallis bn. 1790, son of Richard Vallis and Mary Dorvil, also from Shepton Montague who came to Newfoundland, I believe, about the same time.
