Hello Nina, My 4xgr grandfather was Richard Usher, b. 1798 in Lydiard Tregoze. He was a younger brother of Thomas Usher and brother in-law of Hannah Messiter. I don't know much about Hannah, except that she was born around 1797 in Trowbridge to Stephen and Susannah Messiter. Most of my information relates to Richard's line and the Ushers in Australia. However, I also have some information on the Ushers of Trowbridge and some of Richard's other brothers. Richard and a number of the other brothers ended up in Bristol. Richard & James (b. 1796) are both known to have also been Brewers and Inn Keepers. I don't believe that either achieved Thomas's success. Happy to help if I can. I haven't got experience of them moving other than within Cornwall, except females marrying someone from away.The miners were much more mobile., some of them went out to Mexico.The parish reg I am transcribing at the moment has quite a few miners, and associated trades, some mining manganese , some describing themselves as whitesmiths etc. My Wiltshire and Cornish ancestry came together when my 2xgt grandmother Mary Lawry from St Anthony in Roseland married Simeon Usher from Trowbridge in 1849. Simeon was one of the three sons of Thomas Usher that went into the brewery with him. Thomas Usher 1790-1872 founded Ushers Wiltshire Ales. He and his wife, Hannah Messiter 1797-1880 had 11 children, 10 sons & 1 daughter! My gt gt grandfather Simeon Usher(Trowbridge) 1822-1858 was one of the surviving 8 sons. I have never found anyone else researching Messiter but I live in hope !
