Re Townsends I have some Townsends in my family. Elizabeth Townsend b 1816 in Wroughton, d 1877 in Pewsey. She was the illeg dau of Thomas Jones and Sarah Townsend. I believe Sarah was born in Rodbourne Cheney about 1790 . Elizabeth married Thomas Carter a butcher in Pewsey whose brother James ran an inn in Marlborough and was mayor around 1890.
