Hi Lenore, Sharp's Gazetteer of 1852 notes that Hilcott was a tything, in the parish of North Newnton, with a population of 262. Presumably these population figures are based on the 1841 census. The Imperial Gazetteer of England and Wales of 1874, besides giving the same information above, states that there was a school-house used as a chapel of ease and a Primitive Methodist chapel in Hilcott. The Genuki page for North Newnton is here: http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/eng/WIL/NorthNewnton/ Links to maps showing Hilcott are here: http://www.genuki.org.uk/cgi-bin/gazplace?CCC=WIL,GR=SU110580,PLACE=HILCOTT Josephine -- Josephine Jeremiah www.ianandjo.dsl.pipex.com
