I have been trying to trace the origin of a HAGUE family for years. I have Valentine HAGUE m. Sarah MILLARD in Dilton, 1799 and I have no idea where he came from originally. I had heard that the Hagues were Huguenots 'who had walked all the way from Bristol to Dilton' but I can't find anything to back that up. You can see how far I have gone with my tracking at http://www.soton.ac.uk/~caf1/names.htm#HAGUE However, yesterday I was browsing the Bristol Mercury online and I came across a reference to a Hague missionary (a Moravian minister) from Bristol, who had died in Jamaica in the 1840s. There were some other fairly sparse references around the period 1835-1840 to a family of Hagues being Moravians. This is such a long shot, but I wondered if there were any listers who know how I might do some more digging about the Moravians in Bristol, particularly church registers. There isn't anything in RG4 online that I can see. Also, if anyone is on a Bristol-specific list, I would be very grateful if you could forward this note. Many thanks, Chris Fowler Wimborne Dorset
Chris, the beta familysearch.org site has a bunch of Bristol and Jamaica records I can't get on fsBeta again today, it has been and off and on situation the last two days, they could be updating or it could be my pc. You can search Jamaica baptisms at http://search.labs.familysearch.org/recordsearch/start.html#p=collectionDetails&c=fs%3A1520598 And see the English dbs at http://search.labs.familysearch.org/recordsearch/start.html#p=allCollections&r=2 The non Conformist db has over 1,000 Hague's Eliz On Fri, Dec 3, 2010 at 4:28 AM, GlenChris Fowler <ullswater10@hotmail.com> wrote: > > I have been trying to trace the origin of a HAGUE family for years. Hi Chris, I've had a look at the CD of Nonconformist Baptismal Registers in Bristol Record Office 1754 to 1837, produced by Bristol & Avon Family History Society www.bafhs.org.uk, but had no result for HAGUE. The CD covers Huguenot St. Mark's Chapel 1754 to 1807 and Moravian Kingswood from 1806 to 1837. Josephine -- Josephine Jeremiah www.ianandjo.dsl.pipex.com
