He is living at home with his spouse Jane , aged 61 years. Now this place of birth was a surprise to me. Does anyone have this Cook family on their radar screen ? Shem is a rather uncommon name. 3. Ellie: Ann is a very common alternative name for Hannah, I've found in my family (in the US) who sometimes were listed as one and sometimes the other. That doesn't prove the two you've found are one and the same, but it is worth considering. Sally

    1. Opinions needed please
    2. Laura Thomas
    3. Hi Listers, I'd like to take some opinions on a baptism that I found in the IGI. My 4xgreat grandfather, Isaac CANNINGS married Hannah LEA at Melksham on 26 DEC 1796; the age on her death cert suggests she was born c1774 and the 1841 census shows she was born in Wiltshire. I have found a baptism of an Ann LEA at Ogbourne St George 24 JUL 1774. Given that Ogbourne St George is just a few miles from Melksham, and the frequency that Hs were dropped, how likely do you think it is that Ann & Hannah are the same person? I haven't found another baptism for Ann or Hannah Lea in Wiltshire that fits Hannah's age at death. Thanks, Ellie

This has yet to be proved, If anyone can help it would be much appreciated. Rita

    3. Thank you very much, Ron for the copy I managed to print it. Regards Heather Hi Heather, your realatives are indeed on the 1841 census, I have sent you the information privately. The only BMD for Steeple Ashton(St Mary's) that I have been able to find are at the LDS Family History Centres if you order the relevant films. They are all VERY hard to read! Ron Does anyone have the burial records for Steeple Ashton Parish Church, please? I'm searching for the burial of William Phillips in 1844 aged 88 years and his wife Sarah who I think died between 1841 and 1844. Also their daughter Ann and her husband Daniel Cornish who she married in 1805 at Hinton Charterhouse. Somerset. The couple are not on the 1841 census for that area. Regards Heather
