I don't have any further information on your folk but I do have an Edith PARRICK who married Henry CROOK in Winterslow in 1757. Children I have found so far are: Ann CROOK 1765 Jenny 1771 Abby 1776-1785 Mary ? - 1789 Henry 1780? - 1860 Henry and Edith are my 4x great grandparents. Edith died in 1789 in Winterslow and Henry seems to have moved with the children to Hampshire. From memory, the parish records were very patchy in the early 1700s so I could not find any earlier records which would link Edith to a definite family line Any connections? Cheers, Patsy - New Zealand

Hi Guys, Being the instigator of this topic I must take this opportunity of thanking everyone for their input. What great History/Geography lesson this old ignorant Colonial has received. NOW, I hope to find how these names came about and if THERE was a connection with a name like mine ( anyone want a name like mine, I will give it away) that of TOWELLS or its variance. Thanks again to the very helpful people on this list. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/EUC.2ACI/3119 Message Board Post: Familytreesonline.co.uk - Newsletter Issue 4 1/6/2006 Hi Welcome to the monthly newsletter! This month has been pretty much Cornish oriented as demanded by you the users of this site, thanks for the feedback! There are a few other bits and pieces in here too, but more of that later. I’ve also been kept quite busy with my responsibilities as an Online Parish Clerk. I’ve neglected my transcriptions a bit getting this site up and running, so I went back to do a bit this month, in case anyone was wondering why I hadn’t added to the site for a couple weeks J. If anybody has had any interest in the Parish of Sithney, Cornwall, then look out soon for some new additions to that site. Enough with the waffling! Updates Well this month, as mentioned previously, has been mainly devoted to Cornwall, but not entirely……. Firstly we’ll start with one of the big guns of Cornish ancestry that has sprung up in recent years. The Cornwall Online Census Project (COCP) was started by the same people that started up the OPC scheme, and is very similar, but with the obvious exception that they deal with all parishes in Cornwall, and just the census returns at that. It has recently undergone a number of changes, the main one is that a search engine facility is now up and running, making it incredibly easy to find those elusive ancestors. Its still a work in progress, with the 1871 & 1881 census returns being undertaken, and the 1901 census is in the pipeline. This is one of the essential sites for finding you’re Cornish roots. Another Society has submitted for listing. The Cornish Forefathers Society has a site where you can buy all manner of transcriptions and is also chock full of links, well worth a visit. An interesting little site has also crossed my path this month. If you have found a lline of ancestry that disappears into thin air, have you ever thought that they may have gone to South America? A little known site that covers these people can now be found on my site, I found a number of odd cousins after a few minutes of searching. Also in the Cornish vein are a mining index site, some 16th century wills and also sites pertaining to the parishes of St Erth and Illogan. I did digress a bit as a few sites crossed my path. A brilliant site that finds graves for you - you can even look up the rich and famous! Also to be found this month are genealogy sites covering the Counties of Houghton & Keweenaw in Michigan, A wills exchange site which is useful and a new project specialising in Pennsylvanian ancestry. There is also a Canadian census site, and a site put together by a lady researching her own ancestry, which takes us from several Cornish parishes, to Pennsylvania again and then some. A good variety that I hope you can all find some use for. By no means have I added all the Cornish sites out there, but more will be coming soon. Coming this month..... I’m blowed if I know what I’m adding this month! I’ve had a real variety of stuff arriving, including a massive file containing links to New Zealand sites and loads more. I think I even got some links for Polish ancestry, anyone from Poland?? Thanks this month go to.... Blanche Charles For submitting the NZ stuff as mentioned above - it’ll keep me busy for months, love it!! Looking forward to working with you in the next month regards Damien

East and West Towel are on the David & Charles Reprint of the first edition of the one inch Ordnance Survey map Sheet 77 Devizes. West Towel looks as if it has become West Stowell and East Towel has disappeared though there maybe a few properties near Stowell Park just to the South East of West Stowell that was once the hamlet of East Towel. Hope this helps. Hi Wal, like other answers you have, I've only found West Stowell, which is 6 miles SW of Marlborough, NOT West or East Towell. This was from GENUKI 'Nearby Places' for Marlborough. I've also looked in 'Parloc' and googled all possible combinations and come up empty. Is it possible the source you got them from may have been mistranscribed, or perhaps written down wrongly on the original? This happened frequently. Wal Go to http://www.old-maps.co.uk/ In search box type in 414300,162200 Tick Co-ordinate and search Map shows "West Stowell" and "East Stowell Farms" in about 1889. To get a bigger picture, click on enlarged view and a new window will open with a much clearer map but you will have to move it around a bit. On a Moder Map I can only find West Stowell. The TinyURL is: http://tinyurl.co.uk/ug3y It may be a mis-print in the article or, more likely "twer th local acksent". This is the passage referred to and if one looks at a map of the area there is only West Stowell that matches the author's West Towel. "The country to the north of the little old town (Pewsey) is very beautiful. The precipitous wall of the Marlborough Downs, with several lovely and little-known villages at its foot, is a remarkable feature of the landscape. The high road to Marlborough, that climbs the hills for three fatiguing miles, passes through the small village of Oare, where there is a modern red-brick church. Not far away to the west are the hamlets of West and East Towel, lost in the lonely by ways beneath the hills. Above them in a fold of the Downs is Huish, dropped down amidst memorials of a long vanished past."
