Hi Listers, William Sly married Sophia Ellis on 8/9/1831 at St Denys,Warminster. I am trying to confirm that William was the son of Edward and Mary Sly. Can anyone help ? I would like to hear from anyone with Sly connection to Warminster.Lots of information to share. Regards, Jan Budden.
Sue, I would like a copy of the map of Wiltshire, whenever you have time. Thanks, Debbie
Hi everyone, Well I think I have sent a map now to everyone who requested one (whew!) and at the risk of illiciting another wave of requests - if I missed your request please let me know and I will send you one. Take care Sue

Hello Everybody, Another very useful map for Wiltshire is the one in The Phillimore Atlas and Index of Parish registers edited by Cecil Humphrey-Smith. That one not only shows the names of places but also has the boundaries of all pre-1837 parishes so it is easy what parishes adjoin others. Copies of the map are often available at Family History Fairs and the book is to be found in many libraries. There is a map for each English County as well as Wales. Just incase its of any interest, as well as starting to add some new web pages for my Spanswick research, by county and by parish, I've begun with Pewsey and Aldbourne (plenty of other parishes to add) and as I'm doing so I'll be adding misc. transcripts of other records, containing a number of other surnames. So far there is a transcript of a letter in the Times, concerning Pewsey Workshouse (1840) with a number of names, a list of contributors to rebuilding Pewsey Church (1889) kindly sent to me by another family historian, and a couple of early C17th references to Aldbourne . I expect it will take a number of years (when I need a break from newspapers !) to add all I've got. The site will be re-indexed over the weekend, in the meantime feel free to have a look if of interest : http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~dutillieul/SpansCounty/Wiltshire.html Regards Richard H

Hi everyone, I'd love to hear from anyone connected to the COOKSEY family that were in Bromham in the early to mid 1700s. My own line then moved from there to Gloucestershire, to the Pucklechurch and Winterbourne areas, and then Frampton Cotterell by the early 1800s, and then over to Blaenavon in Monmouthshire in the early 1860s. Kind regards, Jon

Hello Sue, Would you mind also sending me a copy of the Wiltshire map? Many thanks. Jan in Melbourne.
Dear ? I found an Isaac Jones in Corsham, Wilts on the 1851 census: Isaac Jones, head, widr, 31, ag lab, born Chippenham, Wilts David Jones, son, 6, sch, born Corsham Wilts Going forward to 1861 census: Roebuck St, West Bromwich, Staffs Isaac Jones, head, widr, waggoner, born Chippenham, Wilts David Jones, son, unm, 16, forgeman?, born Totterdown, Wilts George Jones, son, 4, born West Bromwich, Staffs Elizabeth in 1861: Hardenhuish Rectory, Hardenhuish, Wiltshire Elizabeth J Jones, serv, 13, nursemaid, born Corsham, Wilts And to go back to 1841 to find Isaac he was living in Corsham, age 20, lab born in county. In 1841 James Stacey and family are in Corsham but no young girl is living with them - ie this of course would have been Elizabeth's mother, so I think you will need to look at parish records to find the baptism of their daughter born around 1820 (same as Isaac). Go to the LDS Libraries - they definitely have the film as I have viewed it. Or, if you are in England, the Wiltshire Record Office will have a copy of the baptism hopefully. If you want me to continue to track your Jones family throughout the censuses I am happy to do so as I have Ancestry sub. I love doing it! Good luck, Lin

Don't have heaps of information, but here is what I do have ... Robert CLIFFORD arrived in Langhorne Creek in South Australia in the early 1850's. He had a General Store which was always known as the "White House" on the east side of the bridge. He was also one of the first Sunday School Teachers at the Methodist Church which opened in 1858. When Robert & Charlotte moved north, probably in 1870's, his eldest son John and Family managed the store. Worked as a domestic servant at THE TIERS, Adelaide. Son Charles lived at Jamestown with wife and family. As Charlotte is buried at Jamestown, it is assumed that she went to live with son Charles and family following death of husband Robert. Charlotte Perry 1823-1899 married Robert Clifford, Certificate no. 682. John and Sarah Perry were witnesses. Charlotte died of Measles and Pyrexia Cert. no. 246. Charlotte's parents were John PERRY and Mary SALES. Any additional information about this line would be most gratefully received. regards, Ann.
