    2. Rich, Just a thought. Amor is quite a rare name. There are a few of them in the Chard registers in the early 1800s. Would you like details? 1. BILLETT IN WILTSHIRE
    2. Bruce Johnston
    3. Hello Listers, I’m attempting to trace the early days of my G-G-Grandfather, Edward BILLETT b.1808 approx.  He, along with his brother George BILLETT (b.1798), was transported to the Colony of New South Wales in 1825. They were convicted of horse stealing and given a life sentence. I am led to believe that the horse was owned by the proprietor of the White Bear Inn and, in true convict fashion, attempted to sell it back to him. I believe the Inn is close to where the present BILLETT family reside. I also believe that the brothers were tried and convicted in Salisbury. However, the conditional pardon given to George Billett by the Colonial Governor in 1841 states that he was sentenced at Wilts Assizes on 16 Jul 1825. I have not been able to locate a pardon for Edward Billett as yet. There was also another Billett, William BILLETT, who was also given a life sentence in the same court at the same time but was transported on a different ship. I don’t know what his relationship to Edward and George was (maybe brother or cousin) but he was 21 years old at the time of arrival in NSW in 1826. A fourth Billett, a John BILLETT, was transported for a term of 7 years and arrived in 1821 at the age of 31. My question is: firstly, how do I go about to obtain transcripts or records of the Court proceedings, and secondly, can anyone assist me to trace the BILLETT lineage in Wiltshire and perhaps Dorset? Thanks to all, Bruce Johnston
