    1. William Wicks in Wiltshire
    2. Tony Drew
    3. Dear Listers, The following is not really in my line of descent, but my great grandfather's sister Eliza Drew married a William Wicks at Chilton Foliat in Wiltshire on 18th April, 1846. At his wedding he was described as a Sergeant in the 3rd Regt. of Foot. From another source, I have potentially located a possible fit for William in 1843 - a William Wicks with a Service Number 1461 who was serving with the 3rd Regt. of Foot at Punniar during the Gwallior campaign. I would be interested in hearing from anybody about this person, mainly to establish who and where he was from and of any descendants. Kind regards Tony Drew (Canberra A.C.T. Australia)

    1. BILLETT IN WILTSHIRE
    2. Bruce Johnston
    3. Hello Listers, I’m attempting to trace the early days of my G-G-Grandfather, Edward BILLETT b.1808 approx.  He, along with his brother George BILLETT (b.1798), was transported to the Colony of New South Wales in 1825. They were convicted of horse stealing and given a life sentence. I am led to believe that the horse was owned by the proprietor of the White Bear Inn and, in true convict fashion, attempted to sell it back to him. I believe the Inn is close to where the present BILLETT family reside. I also believe that the brothers were tried and convicted in Salisbury. However, the conditional pardon given to George Billett by the Colonial Governor in 1841 states that he was sentenced at Wilts Assizes on 16 Jul 1825. I have not been able to locate a pardon for Edward Billett as yet. There was also another Billett, William BILLETT, who was also given a life sentence in the same court at the same time but was transported on a different ship. I don’t know what his relationship to Edward and George was (maybe brother or cousin) but he was 21 years old at the time of arrival in NSW in 1826. A fourth Billett, a John BILLETT, was transported for a term of 7 years and arrived in 1821 at the age of 31. My question is: firstly, how do I go about to obtain transcripts or records of the Court proceedings, and secondly, can anyone assist me to trace the BILLETT lineage in Wiltshire and perhaps Dorset? Thanks to all, Bruce Johnston

    1. Unwanted certifs - BUSH
    2. Janet Bush
    3. Hi everyone, I'm posting two unwanted birth certificates both in the Registration District of Salisbury, Sub-district Salisbury. Hope they help someone: Percival Edward BUSH - born 24 Nov 1909 8:40 p.m. at 18 College Street U.D. - son of Harry BUSH & Helen BUSH, formerly MAPLE (What looks like a twin brother Sydney Gerald BUSH has the same GRO reference - 1909/Q4, Salisbury, 5a/164) Albert George Leonard BUSH - born 8 Oct 1911 at 67 Green Croft Street U.D. - son of Frank BUSH and Emma BUSH, late BUNGAY, formerly KING I ordered the certificate for Percival 1909 because my husband's grandfather was Percival Edward BUSH born 1883 in Ham, Wiltshire and married in 1908 in Kent. I thought this might be a son. May be related somehow or may just be a coincidence. Regards, Janet (Ontario, Canada)

    1. LONG, GRANT, DREW surnames
    2. Sarah .
    3. I thought I'd repost my interests. I am searching for information on the LONG, GRANT, and DREW families. Stephen LONG, christened 1826 in Seend, was the son of George LONG and Martha DREW. He married Dinah GRANT, who was born c1829 in Rowde, the daughter of John and Elizabeth GRANT. Stephen LONG's siblings were James (1812), Solomon (1829), and Mary (1833). Dinah GRANT's siblings were Eleanor (c1824), Martha (c1827), Henry (c1833), Sarah (c1835), and William (c1836). Judging by the parents' age on the 1841 census, however, there may have been a few older siblings as well. I would like mostly to find out more about their ancestors, but any information on these people or their families is welcome! Thanks, Sarah

    3. I am hoping that one of the members of this list has access to the baptisms for Chilton Foliatt. Would they please look up the following baptism? I am looking for a baptism for Peter Withers in either 1806 or 1807 and for any other siblings.I think he had a sister Ann. He married Mary Ann Hobbs in Ramsbury in 1828 and they had twin daughters in 1829. He was covicted for machine breaking in 1830 and was transported to Tasmania in Australia on theProteus in 1831. The records from there say he was baptised in Chilton Foliatt I am descended from Ann Withers one of the twins. I live in Waipukurau in New Zealand and do not have access to these records.
