Hello Robin I wonder if your local Library would have a fiche reader. Many in England do. My ggg grandfather was appointed a gamekeeper, for Coombe Bisset, in 1783 and again in 1793. The information I have records that he was appointed by ³Common Seal of Warden and Scholars of St Mary¹s College, Winchester². Would anyone be able to explain why he was appointed for Coombe Bisset by the Warden etc of St Mary¹s college Winchester? Many thanks Philippa Garnsey Sydney

Julia, I am so rude I need a good thrashing - I did do as you suggested below and it was a most useful exercise. Thank you very much for the leads. By the way if you ever need a look up in relation to Victoria, Australia I have a full set of BDM cds for Victoria and would be happy to help you out. Cheers Anne H. -----Original Message----- From: Julia Hunt [mailto:julia.hunt@ntlworld.com] Sent: Tuesday, 18 July 2006 5:31 PM To: ENG-WILTSHIRE-L@rootsweb.com Subject: RE: [ENG-WIL] Holy Cross Church, Wilcot, Memorials Inscriptions Hi Anne, Go to http://www.familyhistoryonline.net/ , register as a new user, and type just Maurice GOODMAN in the search box, you will then get all the hits for him (and some that are not for him), including the ones where he is listed as Maurice Hiller or Hiler GOODMAN. It only costs a few pence to access the full information. The memorial inscriptions cost 6 pence each. At this same site are ALL of the memorial inscriptions for Wiltshire, which were recorded by the Wiltshire Family History Society, including non-conformist burial grounds. Intriguingly, there are also two marriage licence bonds for a Maurice Hiler/Hiller GOODMAN. Again ALL of the Sarum (Salisbury) Diocese Marriage Licence Bonds are on this site. The Sarum Diocese covered most of Wiltshire, most of Berkshire, parts of Dorset and a small area in Devon. These bonds cost 8 pence each to access. Maurice is also mentioned in two Wiltshire 'strays' entries (5 pence each) and one Wiltshire Quarter Session Calendars entry (6 pence). It's a good idea to visit this site now and again to see what new records for Wiltshire, and for every other county, have been added. | http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/EUC.2ACI/3164 | | Message Board Post: | | Good morning, Is there anyone out there that may have the 1911 census for the Swindon area. It seems that WILLIAM PERCIVAL - Born: c1863, Cumbria, Carlisle, married ELIZA ?? Born: c1862, Monmouth, Wales, for reasons I have yet to find out, moved to Swindon and had two children - CLARA born c1888-Swindon and WILLIAM born c1891-Swindon. Both of these are in the 1901 census, but .. There is also a GERTRUDGE PERCIVAL that I am trying to track down and she must have been born after 1901. Hence my question on the 1911 census. The 1911 England & Wales census isn't available to anyone until January 2012 soyou'll need to be patient. There's no chance of it being released early either. Was he a miner or connected with mining in some capacity? Was he on the railways? There was a big depot at Swindon.
